I was told by somebody yesterday that if someone baught a ird from a 3rd party d* wouldnt activate the equipment because it dint come from them and that id they did they would charge the buyer lease contract for the reciever even though it ws allready purchased from the 3rd party. thr reciver is brand new still in factory box with factory seals. i told them that if they have baugh the equipment it is free and clear from no lease agreaments it is theirs they baught it and someone said also if somebody baught the equipment then they would have to activate asap or d* wouldnt activate their equipment. I could see if the equipment was used equipment and needed a cad replaced but brand new equipment in factory box can someone please give me a strait answer on this asap thanks so much sorry for the dumb question

A new in the box receiver will likely incur a lease agreement. If you really own it, then it shouldn't, but it is rare that that happens. The purchase price is really around $500-600. The lease price for an hd receiver is $100 and for an hd dvr about $200.

ok thank you yes we realy do own the equipment its not hacked, stolen, cloned etc. We sell all new equipment and used equipment so your saying my customers do not have to pay a lease since they already baught the reciever and it is free and clear

If the equipment is purchased after early-2006 it is ALWAYS OWNED BY DIRECTV.

Any cost paid for the equip is a lease upgrade fee.

When the end-user cancels their service on that receiver, they will be expected to return it to directv or pay a large penalty ($300-$500)

Like Masterdeals said any item purchased after early 2006 is considered a lease. No matter were you bought it from. If you spent anywere between 99 to 300 it is leased the full purchase price which i dont think they do anymore is around 600 to 700 .

In most cases, you cannot "purchase" a receiver from DirecTV these days. You might pay money up front, but you are not "buying" it. I paid $199 at Best Buy for a receiver, but it is not "my" receiver. It was clearly marked in several spots on the box that the receiver was the property of DirecTV.

As far as a lease fee, there will be a fee on every receiver (above and beyond the primary receiver) regardless if it is owned or leased. If it is actually owned there is a 'mirror fee', and if it is leased it is called a 'lease fee' instead. There is no price difference between those two fees - so being charged a lease fee does not change the total bill at all.

BTW - it's "bought." :)

ok just talked to d* about he lase thing they said if the unit was owned by someone else who leased it then yes it wil be under a lease if it was never activated then someone buys it its theres no need to send it back since it was never activated before make sense?

Sorry, makes no sense. Like we all said, if it is after a certain time, it is leased.

The only possible difference (for a new receiver) is if it is from 2005 or earlier, and been sitting in someone's closet for 2-3 years plus, and is very old.

Any DirecTV brand receiver that has model numbers starting with the following letters will be leased:

D R H HR (except HR10)

That simple.

March 1,2006 is when leasing started. What model number is the receiver in question? Directv D10/R15 and H20s were the models available at the transition to leasing,if activated before March 1. 2006 they became owned receivers if activated after that date they became leased receivers. If you had a D10 that was never activated and you activate it today for the first time it will become a leased receiver.

You can buy a receiver from anyone, but you don't know the previous history of that receiver. Even though I paid for my receiver at Best Buy, it is a lease. If I turn around and sell it, it's still a lease - even though I could easily lie to someone and tell them that they're "buying it from me."

So if leasing vs. buying is important to someone, I'd say call DirecTV with the receiver specifics to find out what the case will be with that receiver. It needs to be handled on a case by case basis - I wouldn't try to make a blanket statement (or assumption).

they are d1-300 models brand new still sealed with factory seal. I dont know why people are thinking I stole them because there thaughts are saying "i own them" see maybe im thinking difrent here or just not explaining corectl. I know d* charges 4.99 for any reciever after the first one. What im asking and what was asked to me is that when the c/x ends their comentment with d* do they have to return the reciever back to d*. The only reason im asking is because on these installs that we just picked up with this other company all their recievers are posted on the box the the reciever is owned by d8 and will be returned to d* after their comentment. Thats what im asking do my customers have to return their recievers or are theirs. Im sorry for my ignorance I do apologise please dont get upset just want to be on the same track as evryone else thank you so much

OK, if you activated after March 1,2006 then you have to return them to D*.

If before Feb 28, 2006, then they are yours.
