I have a 722 reciever and a samsung HL67A750 tv. Since dish dropped kten I put an antenna. Kten's 10.2 is a CW channel. I pay extra for a national cw channel from dish since it was not part of my local station package. The national cw is not hd so I record it from the antenna but the wide screen format has black strips on all four sides. The standard shows up normal with two black strips on each side. The CW icon that they display at the bottom right of the screen hangs down below the picture into the black strip and it is also huge. What would cause this?

KTEN is just showing the regular cw national sd feed and if memory serves me correct,(which a lot of times it doesn't). KTEN likes to stretch things too. Things like Smallville that are available in HD are shown with black bars on all 4 sides for the sd feed. So either your tv is set to zoom sd material or KTEN is zooming in on the SD material they broadcast.

I haven't been down to Pontotoc in over a year, but I will be heading doen there to move some furniture for my mom in a week or so and will get to check things out down there again.

I'm confused...you're seeing this on your LOCAL OTA station? Perhaps they don't broadcast in HD? I don't know where KTEN is, but a lot of small market digital stations are still 480p.

The SD CW channels on DISH are like this (or at least mine is.) My guess is that they are converting the HD feed to SD either at the network level or at the station. When showing a widescreen show, they letterbox it, which results in black on all sides on an HDTV. When a 4:3 program comes on, they zoom the HD feed so it fills the screen. I used to see the zoom at the end of Reaper, because some 4:3 reality show came on afterward. The picture would sometimes zoom during the last couple of seconds of Reaper. Other times, the first couple of seconds of the next show were in "Postage Stamp Vision", and then it would zoom in to a nomal pillarbox.

It gets really crazy during commercials, because sometimes they are letterboxed SD spots. So it's a letterbox in a pillarbox in a letterbox in a pillarbox.

The fact that the logo hangs down into the black means you are definitely watching an SD channel.

Your right. They are not broadcasting the cw in hd. I will go back to recording the national feed. Thanks.

Tulsa is the same way, we currently get a 480i subchannel from our CW's sister CBS station, because KQCW's digital facilities haven't been built yet. I think the WPIX feed from Dish looks better than the subchannel feed on 6.2 in Tulsa. Hopefully Griffin has their new facilities finished by the end of summer and we can get CW HD.

Ok my Kten 10.1 cbs is doing the same thing and I am pretty sure it is in hd. I am not sure what is going on. My kxii displays fine off the antenna. The picture looks wide screen but is in the standand size window.

I guess it is a problem with the tv. I was pressing the picture size button on the remote going between just scan, 16:9, 4:3 and wide fit and it had no effect and than when I went into the actual menu and changed back and forth there it started working.
