I do have a bunch of shows saved on an external HD though, is there any way to access those shows?

They are encrypted. If you move them back to the receiver, they will stay encrypted. They can only be played back on the Dish VIP DVRs on your account. I have no idea what happens if you unsub entirely.

i downgraded to the 200 from the 250, I don't notice the difference at all (in tv veiwing), I only watched natgeo but they when downhill fast with the dog whisper and all that garbage. so you could save a lil $$ that way

If he unsubscribes, those EHD shows are lost, even if you later sign up again. We've had someone post here complaining about that.
