Customer rentention works!

Just got off the phone with two calls from customer rentention. The first call yielded a $150 rebate off the DVR plus a $5 discount for 6 months. Then at the end, he upped it to a $250 discount. I tried to get the antenna thrown in, but no go.

Second call would yield no movement downward. But at the end, she discovered a different offer which would pull $5 off of my programming package for 9 months!. I have the total choice deal, so it may be restricted to it.

Tried to get the OTA thrown on for free, but no good. But the agreed to relocate my existing DVR (non HD) to another room for free.

Not too bad. All of this includes installation, of course. Already had the proper dish.

Candygirl, please take your negative attitude somewhere else.

So what if the original poster got a discount. He didn't demand it.
 
I don't see anything wrong with asking for something for being a good customer. Offering a long-time customer something to get them to stay when they've been offered something better from the competition is just plain good business. It's no different than asking your bank to lower your credit card interest when you've been getting all kinds of lower credit card offers in the mail.
 
If you think about it satellite companies make their profit off of service, not equipment. Its just like the computer industry. The majority if not all the money is made off of the software.

Wait until May 17th when the price drops then you can laugh at his expensive bargin. :) :) :)
 
I have a $200.00 discount on any HD receiver including any HDTivo box from D*...I can't justify paying $900.00 dollars for a HDtivo receiver!!!!!But if theres gonna be a significant price drop then I may get to experience Tivo for the first time.

do you pay list price for everything in life if so YOU ARE A FOOL, if directv is willing to give people breaks just for the asking who are you to say it is wrong, i dont care who you work for. as long as you are getting your weekly paycheck you should be glad these customers are calling to get better deals instead of going to a competitor. at least you still have a paycheck coming because of these customers STAYING with directv. If i buy a car i haggle, a house i haggle, i spend over 150 bucks a months on tv in my house so if i try to get a better deal by shopping one competitor against another, the provider with the best overall package, price , csr and yes maybe even retention deals will come out on top, obviously the people that actually make decisions at directv have decided that retention needs to be run like this and you will just have to continue answering the phone and making these horrible offers to us horrible people. Oh yeah by the way, if Directv didnt give me the deals they did i would have looked at other providers, DIRECTV doesnt want that, obviously you could care less. Why would you be so bitter at a sales practice that actually keeps customer with the company you supposedly work for? either you are just very unhappy in general or have no understanding of what it takes to thrive in business. Without us horrible people you despise so much , you would be unemployed, By the way voom is looking for a few good retention specialists :yes

I have no problem negotiating for a lower price. It's their call if they want to offer it. I am certainly not taking advantage of anything. And I was serious: if they didn't lower the price of the Tivo, I was ready to jump ship and go to Adelphia where the box rental is $15/month. And you should have heard the offer from them to get me back. The only reason I stayed with D* is the hope that their HD offerings in the near future are as good as their press releases promise.

The down side of even getting a $250 discount on the Tivo is that it WILL be obsolete soon if I want to take advantage of MPEG-4 in Los Angeles, and that the company STILL will not committ to a transition policy for those who purchase the overpriced Tivo recently.

This is my first post here in the DirectTV forum. I am really impressed with the retention folks. I switched from Voom to DirectTV in January, purchasing a HD DVR (upgraded by Weaknees) and a R10. I was offered no discounts other than new customer promotions. I then read this forum and learned that some folks got up to $250 credit for the HD DVR. I was hesitant to call since I was a relatively new customer, but once the 'Voom Boom' offer was advertised, I thought I would give it a try.

I sent e-mail and got 2 calls back within a day. I hadn't had a chance to call them back, and yet they just called again. The CSR was friendly and asked how they could make me happy. I explained that I was already happy with the equipment and service, but that I heard some folks got a better deal than I received. I was not demanding anything and just let him talk. He offered me an instant $100 off the HD DVR and another ~$140 in programming credits.

I am impressed that they called me back and took the lead on this. I will be a loyal customer and not ask for more 'freebies' anytime soon.

Just my 2 cents.

Does anyone know about deals on sd tivos for current customers
 
I just called directv retention and was on the phone a total of less than 5 minutes, asked what they could do to help offset the price of the hd tivo and within a minute i had a 250 dollar credit upon activation of the hd tivo. the funny part is i called and asked for candy but they didnt have anyone there by that name LOL i know it is her screen name here and not what she would be called at directv but i was hoping i could find her and make her give me the credit LOL
 
As of May 10th, I'll be a defector from Dish Network. I called and asked what I could get an extra receiver (for my kid's room) for, and they said around $200, or $100 less if I signed up for a two year commitment (I've been a customer for a year and a half). "This is the only offer we have now, sir." I asked to speak with a supervisor, and he said the same thing, and wouldn't budge. ' Way to keep customers, Dish. I promptly called DirecTV and set up an installation for Tuesday (two regular receivers and one TiVO). The dual-tuner TiVO will be nice. :)
