So I'm reading about and seeing all these new curved TV's and wondering what the big deal is. I understand that technology now allows for curved displays and I understand that's a great thing in custom situations, but what the big deal of a curved TV in the living room. I'm leaning towards this is just another gimmick like in-home 3DTV's to sell more TVs. What I'm really excited about is 4K. I understand the benefits 4K brings. So I'll ask again. What's the big deal with curved TV's?

I personally believe that curved screens in home theaters are a gimmick. I can see them in a theater where the screen is 50' diagonal. Even then they are not really curved much.

I thought curved was pure gimmick. Then I saw one. It has some appeal, but I won't be buying one.

So I can see we all agree. Other then in a traditional movie theater, at Disney which has a HUGE 180 degree wrap around screen or at IMAX theaters; Curved screens are a total gimmick in the home. I didn't buy a 3DTV and I won't be buying a curved TV. Now a 4kTV is a different story.

A front projection system could benefit from a curved screen to help compensate for the lens. But, LCD/OLED/etc would not have that issue.
