I purchased a new *c dsr 500 reciever and ellipitcal dish to replace my old 400 series unit. I am about 80 km e of van bc ca and can only get about 55 p strgth. Is this normal for this dish as i can't seem to get it any higher. I'm about 38 elev-78skew. If i go to suggested setting of 32 elev i dont get any signal at all. I am doing these adj all by hit n miss manually as i don't have any fancy tools. :) I am adjusting on sat chn 299. any comments would be appreciated

The important number is the Ecb # on the System Status screen on 5XX receivers (same as the ECBN # on the Diag C screen of legacy receivers). Minimum # for service is 2.5 I get 9.0 to 9.3 on F1 and 10+ on F2 but I am in Great Lakes region.

I get a 94 signal and 10.8 EbNo on 299 in Connecticut. That is with a 60E dish (the small one).. so it sounds like your dish alignment is off..]

Unfortunately, the *C dish is FSS, so it is very sensitive to alignment issues, a single centimeter of arm movement is enough to pass the bird completely, its not like BEV, which is a great big booming circular bird, that you could use a pie tin to pick up.

Another suggestion is to pick up the *C signal meter, or a SF-95 by itself, so you have a better idea of your alignment
