Hello everyone,

I'm new here, it's nice to make your acquaintance.

I've had a BUD for 16 years or so, but never had much motivation to play with it much until recently. Let me explain...

I was trying to tune into a satellite and got distracted while panning West. I overshot by quite a bit. But then I got a signal, and it wasn't in English.

Turns out there's a bunch of FTA channels (all non-English from what I could tell) broadcasting on the same frequency as the satellite I was trying to program in, but in a different location. And my son loves the music he heard while I was trying to figure out what channel it was.

I called Skyvision hoping they could help me save the location of this oddball signal to an unused satellite slot in my Motorola DSR-922. Apparently that's outside of their expertise.

So now I'm curious about what it takes to accomplish this (seemingly) trivial task. I've been writing software for over 10 years, Web applications mostly, but it's all just 1s and 0s, so I figured that creating a custom satellite location shouldn't be all that difficult. Or is it?

Is there a way to create a new satellite location by copying from an existing location, then altering the channel list? I'm not afraid of electronics or computers, but I also don't want to run afoul of any laws. I can't imagine this is illegal, but then again, some guy has a patent on using a laser pointer to entertain cats, so I'm theoretically breaking a law when I don't pay him royalties... I know, YANAL, TINLA, yadda yadda. But does anyone know?

I don't have any other equipment other than my 922, VCRS module and a 7' dish with a C/Ku feedhorn. But I've got a G5 Mac, a Powerbook and a couple old PCs that could be put to use on this task if necessary.

Any advice?

TIA!
