<div class="bbWrapper">Thanks, I may have to give it a try.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Acronis is a great program,it allows you to completely clone your hdd,or partially if you prefer.It has saved me at least twice.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119" target="_blank" class="link link--external link--favicon link--favicon--before" style="background-image:url('https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=support.wdc.com');" rel="nofollow ugc noopener">http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119</a></div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Thanks, lots of good info there.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Changed the title to say &quot;hdd&quot;. I thought it was High Definition. LOL</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Maybe another clue: Regardless of which drive I try to boot from I get a disc read error, but they both pass a SMART test. The primary drive takes a while to pass the short test. It hangs on the last 1%, but it does pass eventually.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">HP m8407c. I replaced the hard drive today and all seems to be well.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver update resolves issue with some drives reporting that they need to be replaced when they do not need to be.<br /> Your drive may have been fine. Try installing this:<br /> <a href="http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-66636-1&amp;cc=us&amp;dlc=en&amp;lc=en&amp;os=2093&amp;product=3715625&amp;sw_lang=" target="_blank" class="link link--external link--favicon link--favicon--before" style="background-image:url('https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=h10025.www1.hp.com');" rel="nofollow ugc noopener">http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...dlc=en&amp;lc=en&amp;os=2093&amp;product=3715625&amp;sw_lang=</a></div>

<div class="bbWrapper">Thanks, I&#039;ll give that a try when I get the chance.</div>

<div class="bbWrapper">avg1joe, turns out that driver update is only for 32 bit systems, mine is a 64 bit. Thanks anyway.<br /> <br /> Edit: I found the 64 bit version and I am installing it now. I hope it works!<br /> <br /> Re-edit: Nope, still getting the disc read error. I guess the hard drive is toast.</div>
