Cox Media Group Removes Local Channels From DISH

"News story"? It's a statement released by the ATVA. Nothing more...

And that is a press release. I have no problem with Scott posting all the press releases he wants (actually, he can post anything he wants, he runs the board. He can delete my posts if he likes. He can kick me off the board if he likes). I just wish him to identify press releases as such (he did in the first post on the thread). Reading post #66 makes it sound like a news story. Someone who doesn't know what the ATVA is might not realize the "spin" for what it is. So I posted the "other side" of the spin.

Ok, I guess your complaint then is that someone who didn't read the thread starter might be confused by subsequent posts. Nothing new there...

Dish is tough to deal with by the programmers. Always has been. While most carriers will make a deal more quickly, Dish holds out. It is a two way street, as Dish "may" get a better deal, or in time they lose so many customers, they give in. The big problem is that prices are through the ceiling. I never thought that the norm would be $100 a month. But as most carriers are losing subs constantly, there has to be a breaking point. Rumor is now that Dish & Direct may want to merge as neither will have enough customers to stay afloat.

I just post when I am sent, and thats from all sides. I don't write them. :)

Nor do I get paid by anyone, DISH, ATVA, COX etc.
You do post press releases---often without comment but you also identify them as such and there is never any doubt about the source.
It is up to the readers to realize that the companies involve know the truth but are unlikely to discuss it in their press releases.

Where does this end? My bill is now at $175. That is with Top 250 and locals ($125), 2 H3's and a Joey ($37). Thought I cancelled Dish Protect long ago, but just checked and it was still active. Just cancelled that so bill should go down to $164 until the new increase hits. No premiums and no movie pack and pushing $200 a month. OTA has become increasingly less reliable here due to channel moves. I have very little use for locals other than the news/weather, but do like to watch football. My wife does have several shows that she follows so there's that too. Dropping packages only nets you what, 10 bucks? Just have to grin and bear it for now I guess, but with the cost of everything else going up so much and, being retired, seeing the severe haircut my 401K has received, will have to start thinking about cutbacks on luxuries. We love Dish. My wife refuses to go anywhere else for TV. It is extremely reliable and the equipment easy to use. I still think Dish is trying to hold the line. Don't the content owners realize they're pricing us out? They must see the massive cord-cutting, no? I'm one of the few people I know who still has cable or satellite.
After the channel repack, there are much greater odds of cochannel interference from another market. Channel Master’s new CM-1776 Pro antenna may help in some situations due to a superior front to back ratio of like 40db. Normally antennas have 19db f/b ratio. I have problems with OKC stations coming through the back side of antenna from 100mi away and knocking out some of my channels. I haven’t tried this Channel Master yet because not sure if it has enough UHF gain for me. I set up a phased antenna array to try to cancel out OKC. Waiting for optimal day to determine how well it is working. It is not perfect. Other cities still interfere to the side.

Edit - Forgot to mention that the cochannel interference is dependent on atmospheric conditions. Usually happens when a cold front moves through. Also can happen in the morning as the sun warms the ground allowing signals that don’t have line of sight to bounce in.

Thanks for the input. I have this antenna for VHF and this antenna for UHF combined with this preamp. My antennas are aimed by bringing a TV up on the roof and adjusting the antennas based on the signal strength meter on the TV that has all the channels scanned into it already. My frustration was that I had difficulty getting the Hopper OTA tuner to scan all the channels that my TV's seem to have no problem scanning and holding mainly the Cox station which is our local FOX on Hi-VHF RF 8. After several rescans best I could get is 27 stations, but not the FOX. I ended up taking the OTA tuner off of the H3 and disconnected and removed it then did a hard reboot. Then I took a second H3 OTA tuner I had and connected it and the H3 recognized it and did another reboot and when it came back up I went to the OTA in settings and did a scan and this time I scanned 32 channels and this time I got FOX!!! All my TV's get 41 channels off the same antenna setup so that was why I was frustrated. I do appreciate the tips thank you.

TV locals want too much. There will be a time where the cost will no longer be worth it. Some streaming services do not carry locals. Dish/Direct may end up going the same way. That will push some subs back over to cable, but even cable is having the same issues. Why the FCC allowed locals to charge carriers is beyond me. It has done nothing but hurt the viewer while the corporations get more money. Yet OTA TV continues to be free.
why don't direct and cable come up with boxes like the hopper and a usb dongle for an antenna. and cut the fee's for the locals. considering they made close to 14 billion smackers  .

These disputes do not help anyone. In the World of streaming services a person can pick up easily another service, Dish will continue to lose customers. I know people now that watch free TV on the Roku or Fire Stick and get their locals OTA.
I have streaming now and I hate it . Sports are super delayed vs non streaming .

They are, for about a minute. Even satellite is delayed by about 5 seconds from live.
I know they are, but my point is how does he know. Is he following on a betting app? Maybe getting up to date scores online? If it's something that isn't important, just don't look at them. It's no different than pausing a dvr for a minute and then continuing with the show.
