Now that I have thew ability to update my Coolsat 8000 I just updated it with version 2025

WOW!! Talk about night and day. And with a few others acquiring these pretty inexpensive recently maybe this can help

Comparisons with the new version versus the old (1440 I think it was). All are upgrades

1. the satellite list. Other than AMC21 its up to date with names! I actually see "Horizons 2" as the satellite for 74W and not "Galaxy 6" which hasnt been that for years. The new version has AMC instead of GE :)
2. The list goes from E to W...use to go W to E...ie it starts with 1.0 and then the next one etc..so for the normal sats it shows 72, 72.5, 74, 77, 79 etc in order
3. all the eastern satellites are gone. Use to have to delete like 20 satellites that were XXX.0 E. Dont need those
4. The 31 satellite limit is GONE! Use to have a limit of 31 satellites so if you were KU/DBS you actually ran out of slots. This is now gone. Now I might motorize it
5. When you manually scan after it logs the channel it goes to it. Previously it would go back to the manual scan option
6. Transponder list is semi-up-to-date
7. reservation (for timers) is on top of sort (was the other way around)

Sadly it still sorts the channels horribly with a lot of channel 0001 which proves this was a hacker special (since Dish channels would be 0100, 0101 etc they can sort by sid)

Other than that it looks like the same firmware. So this is an upgrade :)

I enclosed 3 things
-the loader. Its kinda weird as you have to run the program that shows "1" first, then "2" which loads the info. Then the loader itself
-clean. This allows you to "clean" the software. Actually it allows you to go backwards on software. Normally it wont
-the file

need a null modem cable. Anyone else notice any differences between the old software and the newer one?

Super MR Berg. This will work well with my $20.00 CS8000HD. :D
Thanks.

Mine came with this version. Actually "2.02.5A" it says, but it has the updated names like Horizons 2 etc. :D

Some of us will have problems with the loader if OS is Windows XP pro or Vista. There will be two files lacking the loader need to work.
DON'T fret! Wen a dialogue box appear (after installing the loader and clicking on it), just write down the files that are missing, go to Google search, find the files, download them, install them (easy instructions!), and ta daaa...
you're good to go. There are two .OCX files needed that the Pro and Vista lack.
Hope this help some of you!

for someone like me who hasn't gotten around to cleaning out the hackware yet in my CS8000, what do I do?

1) use clean first
2) run the various loaders - #1, then #2, then the #3.01 one using the 2025a sgn file?

thanks.

First of all WOW, you're slow :) Seems like it was almost a year ago when you started the effort to get a serial port going for this, and 2025a has been out for about 6 months now. But I guess if things are working OK, then no need to try new firmware.

Re (1) yeah. It's annoying for me though, since AMC21 is the one I use the most. There is also something very annoying about when you try creating a new sat to become AMC21, although it's been so long, that I can't remember what the issue is..... perhaps something about not being able to specify longitude or putting them in the proper order or something like that. I can't remember, but I remember that it was annoying. I've found my 8100 so annoying that I don't even attempt to completely program all the sats in anymore, because I know that they are going to get wiped out and I'll have to start over. So I just leave it in a partially programmed condition.

Re the 31 sat limit, yes, that's a nice improvement, and eliminating all the eastern hemisphere sats is nice, and in this case might be extremely important, because at least with the 8100, there is a bug with respect to deleting things. I'm not sure if this happens when you delete satellites, but if you delete channels in certain ways, it tends to do a factory reset. I can't remember which window it does this in, so I've been afraid to delete anything. It was reported by someone over on Satforums, and at first I didn't see it occur, but then I saw it on my receiver. Anyway, before you program too much stuff into it, you might try experimenting with deleting things, just to make sure that you can, without it resetting.

The lack of a channel editor is still the biggest deficiency of this receiver, which becomes very important if you ever need to add a manual channel with AC3 audio or MPEG4 video (via what you refer to as PID scan) .

Overall though, 2025a is an improvement, but they went backwards in a couple areas. I just wish that mine would stop doing it's freezing/rebooting things. It is a lot better with the new firmware, but it still does this. Not everyone sees this so it must be a QA/QC issue rather than a design issue.

??? Is this somehow a difference between the 8000 and 8100, or perhaps something involved with the computer OS being used?

I've never had to use the "1" and "2" things. I just run the CSUpgrade v3.01.exe program, then use it to upload the clean, and actual firmware versions. Of course I'm using an 8100, not the 8000, but the firmware loader program seems to be the same, so I don't know why the "1" and "2" files would be required, unless they are for VISTA or something. I've used CSUpgrade v3.01.exe on Win2000 and Win-XP (home edition) without first using the 1 and 2 files.

One thing I thought was funny was I noticed that the zipped version of the clean file said something like 270 bytes, and I know that it is only 16 bytes long. I guess if files are very small, that the zip compression process takes up more space than the actual file.

With the 8100, I've read that before loading in the newest firmware, that you should first load some original version of firmware, then load in the new firmware. This always seemed strange, and didn't seem like it should be necessary. I assumed that it must be something that's necesssary if you're either putting on pirate software, or perhaps if the receiver already has pirate software on it, but shouldn't be necessary if you're going from factory to factory. So after a year or so of doing a 2 step process, I think the last time I went straight to the new firmware, and it eventually worked.... I did have some problem though, which I posted about when 2025a first came out, but I'm not convinced that it had anything to do with the order of loading files.

the only time you need to run the clean file is when you are going backwards on software.....like form hackware to the factory

run clean file first
then the new file

Thanks again ICE for that clarification.

Wow this baby 8000HD did have a hackers firmware (11.xx.1f), now it has 2025 thanks to this post ICE.

BTW: I did try the menus and scanned 93w with the 11. firmware to see how it worked. Seemed a bit slow at times, But once I'd installed 2025 boy was it faster and smoother.
