Is it safe to assume this rec. does 4:2:2? Do you have to have an HD rec. to get 4:2:2? Can you upgrade the software in the coolsat by USB? Are there many FTA HD channels? Especially sports feeds

Thanks, I had read that before. I forgot that the 4:2:2 question was answered in there. I guess it's still just the Quali-TV 1080 that can do it. I wonder if it's still $700? We need some competition to step up so the price can fall a bit.
I'm trying to decide between the 8000 or the viewsat ultra. I'm leaning towards the Ultra. Thoughts?
One other thing. All I currently have is a 10' C & Ku band dish. Can I get all the FTA stuff with this dish and LNB? I assume the smaller dedicated fta dish wouldn't offer anymore programming?
The 10 footer will get you the same things a smaller dish would on KU Band (unless there is a line of site issue)

Thanks Iceberg that's what I thought. I guess you didn't have an opinion on the 8000 or Ultra? I'm thinking with the price difference and no 4:2:2 (not to mention I havent upgraded to a HD TV yet) that the ultra might be the best choice for a beginner in FTA
viewsat has issues with motor's and imo is designed only for the hacker croud, a $100 fortec mercury II would do you better for true fta.

Thanks, I didnt know about that one. I already ordered the Ultra though. Maybe in time I'll go for HD after more receivers hit the market. I think in the meantime the Ultra will be a nice beginner unit for me.
