According to http://www.sat-sales.com, Coolsat is releasing the Coolsat 7000 Micro PVR in the middle of April. The price $229.95 is very much better than Viewsat 7000 PVR (about $319.95).

The long anticipated Coolsat 7000 micro PVR Digital Satellite Personal Video Recorder, also dubbed as the Time Machine due to the its futuristic features that no other competitors could match is coming soon.
Coolsat R&D team has put in countless hours to build this new model and in result, it has the most advanced technology that is far ahead of other receivers that are on the market right now. For example, it allows you to record up to 40 minutes of live TV by using 1 GByte internal NAND flash memory and comes with 64Mb memory stick that allows users to upload and download files from/to their computer. It is simply the best satellite receiver that we have created so far.
Coolsat 7000 micro PVR allows you to tape all the best shows even when you are home! This receiver allows you to hook up your own hard drives and tape satellite tv shows whenever you want. Coolsat makes it easy to do with the coolsat 7000 pvr usb. No longer do you need to miss shows or rush home to watch your shows.

Personal Video Recorders have never been so easy with the new Coolsat 7000 PVR. Coolsat 7000 PVR allows users to use USB drives and allows them to add hard drives and tape all the shows they want with powerful on screen channel guide on the Coolsat 700.

I've been eyeing the Neosat Ipro 2000 for $200. You can use whatever USB drive you want for the PVR storage.

That thing looks like a Nfusion box. Slight change to front and buttons, but otherwise I thought I was looking at an Nfusion box.

Hi:

It sounds okay not not astoundedly advanced over my old Fortec Ultra. I'm not sure how valuable it would be to me to be able to tape 40 minutes of a show.........get that up to two hours and I might be interested. The USB support and ability to hook up an external hard drive, however, is a good idea. I didn't see anything in the specs about HDTV. I don't know if you can pick up HDTV on FTA anyway so maybe that point is mute.

cheers
Bryce

first off, I find it funny that 7 posts and every one of them is a shill for a satellite comapny (the SAME one) but lets have some fun, shall we?

For example, it allows you to record up to 40 minutes of live TV
that's all? 40 minutes. Well so far I amn not impressed

I got a DVR for that so again, not impressed

as long as its 40 minutes in length or less

[*]Max. 40 min. Time Shifting, Recording and Play back by using 1 GByte internal NAND flash memory (extended to max. 8 Gbyte)
again, my VCR can record longer
[*]Support 9-Day EPG
um, considering unless you are stealing a 9 day, 7 day or 30 day guide doesn't mean crap to me.
[*]Maximum 5,000 Channels Programmable
so does pretty much every one of my boxes

[*]Component Y/Pb/Pr Output via RCA
I would need a new TV to make them work

so all and all, I am NOT impressed with the box

I read the 40 minute thing as a live TV buffer - like Tivo does for 30 mins. Looks like you could also use that to store recordings but as you said - that's worthless.

The CS8000 was a let-down for me and no mention of HD on this box makes it yet another I won't concider.

worth note:

Yea, it's a copy 'n paste of someone's advertizing info.
While heavy-handed, it's still of interest to this group.
Well, at least to me.

1). I read: "40 minutes on 1gb internal flash drive."
I think it's implied that with a 500gb HD, you might get a bit more. :)
2). Yea, the EPG means they're going to support hackers
3). blind scan? If true, this is by far the most interesting feature!
4). component and Svideo out? Sounds good to me.
5). optical audio out - it'd darned well better have this and it'd better work!
6). upgrades via USB/RS232 - well, RS232 is common; the USB could be handy.

So, I find the specs interesting.
However, several similar units are currently on the market.
Some of them don't live up to their claims (nor my expectations).
So, I do not automatically embrace this one, either.
It's gotta hit the shelves, get reviewed, show that it all works, and maybe then...I'll go buy one.

For further discussions of FTA PVRs, I recommend this other thread, where several units already on the market, are discussed.

If it had a network connection and allow EPG information from the likes of zapit, TitanTv or similar (like MythTv), then the EPG would be useful.

I see that the neosat pvr does have a network connection, but don't see any information for it's use (maybe to automate firmware updates).

Someone on another forum mentioned a lyngbox that would connect to lynsat network for information....probably vaporware....

Yes....getting our hopes up again for another PVR. It would be nice to have one that actually works and you can easily transfer your recorded shows to your PC.

The "Perfect" FTA receiver still seems to be resting in a room with the Holy Graile :)

Until they uncover it, I'll go the PCI card/PC route for HD, 4:2:2, and PVR functions.

Not that I think many care about this receiver here, but it's available for pre-order shipping 3rd week in april from Dishjockey website for those that are interested.
