It even worked on my dad's prepaid phone which had Gingerbread on it.

These Easter Eggs have been in Android since Gingerbread.

I doesn't matter how many taps, just tap fast several times until the icons appear. I just swished my finger across the screen left and right several times to get the icons to fly.

I've tried tapping my phone so many times that I thought I heard some strange noises from the phone.... Kidding aside, doesn't work on my DNA.

I just did what op said. Tappity tap tap on the Android version and it popped right up. Then swiped around and the multi jelly beans appeared.

The carrier may have done something to disable or remove it....

My S3 just got Android 4.3 upgrade from 4.1.2 and it still works.

This is what happens on KitKat. Tap the K a few times to get to the red screen, then trace the circle to get to the animated screen. On the animated screen, the tiles move by themselves, but they also move when you touch them.

No idea why you haven't seen it. I don't think VZW routinely does phased rollouts. They test internally (supposedly !!) and maybe test with a small group and when they're happy, they release it to EVERYONE.

Yes. Also a few friends haven't seen it either.
