Working on connecting a pc as a dvr. It has hdmi, but unfortunately I learned to late that you cannot access the HDMI singal from the Win 7 OS only as a seperate signal exclusive to the monitor.
Here is what I have, and I am trying to do:
HP Touchsmart Q600 with two possbile tv connections:
The confusing part (for me at least) is that the line in from the dish itself is split. One goes to the tv tuner in my touchsmart and the other goes to the converter. How does that UHF signal get processed?
I can connect the first signal to the hdmi connection on the machine and view tv (hdmi out of the converter directly to the touchsmart hdmi connection). I can connect the second signal to the tv tuner connection on the machine and view tv. (coax from the satellite via a splitter to the tv tuner in the touchsmart).
HERE IS THE ISSUE:
I cannot use the built in ir blaster on the tv tuner to control the channel selection for tv2 (coax). It uses UHF.
More background:
TV1 is the hdmi and because it is generally in proximity to the Hi-Def display IT IS THE ir remote connection.
TV2 does not get a signal from the converter at all. Although I don't quite understand how it works it is seperate of the converter box and a coax cable goes directly to the 2nd tv.
I know that the UHF remote for TV2 changes the channel, but I do not know how.
ULTIMATELY WHAT I WANT TO DO:
I am hoping for a way to convert the signal generated via the built-in ir blaster on my pc tv tuner to UHF and control that second TV signal. That way I can schedule recordings and generally use the computer to change the channel.
I 'chatted' with the DISH network tech staff and they were hands-off for a solution or even an idea.
Apparently there is no way to switch the IR and UHF remotes from TV1 to TV2. If that were possible, it would solve everything and I would be able to use the ir blaster directly on the converter to control TV2 .. then the UHF remote to control the HDMI signal - problem solved. I thought that was possbile, but if it is, they didn't know that it is possilbe. Does anyone know if that is possible?
I am happy to offer more information if I missed anything. Thanks for the help even if it is to say there isn't any way possible to do this.
UPDATE AFTER MORE SEARCHING: Is it possible that this is what I need? http://www.prosatellitesupply.com/TERK_LF-IRX_Signal_Sender.htm
Is it a bridge for the ir signal? or does it take an ir signal and transmit it to UHF to the converter? They should provide a graphic description.

HP Touchsmart Q600 with two possbile tv connections:
- a coax or s-video tv tuner card built in on Win 7 Home Prem that includes an ir-blaster. I have connected this and view programs using the DISH UHF remote to change the channel.
- an hdmi connection that turns the pc into a hi-def tv (via the 24 inch monitor). It is a totally seperate signal that you cannot access any of the pc functions when you are viewing a tv program. Win 7 does not see this signal.
