kind of an interesting read here. while the only true way to know what they've been handing out is to get a hold of someone from your HSP's logistics dept, i would guess that they are cat2 cables but poorly/improperly/not tested. they have to hand out thousands of HDMI cables a week and i doubt they're going to spend money on something quality when 99% of everyone wouldn't even be able to tell the difference in a double blind test. plus, if *you* cant see a difference why pay more? food for thought.

Another way too look at it is, IF the cable and connectors are decent, the HDMI signal is digital, so it's either gonna be perfect or nothing on the set.
You won't get part of the digital signal, it's all or nothing.

IF, and this is what is in question, they are able to handle the large amount of data required for the 4K
Monster here claims $250 "Hyper speed" http://www.monsterproducts.com/Monster_Video_ISF_2000HD_Hyper_Speed_HDMI_Cable

OTOH, monoprice has a cable that will give you the same PIC quality for $20 (sans bells and whistles on the connector)
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024015&p_id=3660&seq=1&format=2

Both of these will get you 4K just fine.

And these are 1.4 or 2.0 or newer yet ?
you keep missing the point. From the HDMI website

HDMI 2.0 does not define new cables or new connectors. Current High Speed cables (Category 2 cables) are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth.
