After just over a quarter of a century with DISH I am considering leaving due to what I see as an increasingly unstable business environment.

Am I jumping the gun?

Should I go to cable (Cox), FIOS or perhaps a streaming service? Which streaming service?

That's up to you. Though both are facing bankruptcy. The incompetence of some of these companies is mind blowing. We ditched direct for ota. We couldn't be happier not having to pay to deal with clueless idiots!!!

You will want to consider what you would be gaining or losing. For us, we hated the cloud DVR's as compared to the Hopper. I personally think Dish will eek out a couple of years more...and we'll probably be with them to the end.
I'll be right there with you KAB . I am still hoping Charlie will come up with something good for the Hopper 3 after the birds run out of fuel.

Well if they wanted to they could turn the hopper into a streaming/satellite receiver. Let you record as many channels as you want using the cloud dvr - like Sling TV. They could add both satellite and streaming ability to each channel. So when you record you have a choice. Then they could transition from just a satellite company to a satellite TV / streaming company. Might make them last a few years longer.

At least the regular subs would stay on longer if they could do streaming, recording in satellite for those with no internet access and then recording locals over antenna. But they need to add a 4 tuner dongle instead of just 2 tuner dongle. Then you could save the $14.00 locals fee. I could see this keeping some existing customers longer, but the high accumulative FEE structure would have to be addressed.

Lower the DVR fee to $5.00 and let customers buy their own joeys either from DISH or from adding up the additional receiver fees already paid - to pay for the joeys. So after so many months you own the joeys. If they did something like that they could make the service more attractive. But either way something has to change if they want to hang around on the scene longer.

First, FiOS is NOT an option any longer. They will not sign up new customers, even if they are current FiOS Internet customers.

Second, the H3 IS a streaming device. And if we can ever record those streams it will be worthwhile.

Third, they need a certain level of income. So dropping fees will just mean other costs will go up. Why should I pay the same price, with my single H3, as someone with multiple boxes?

There's instability throughout the entire traditional cable TV and satellite industry, I wouldn't jump from Dish to another traditional provider like Cox or DirecTV. imo, streaming would be the only thing worth switching to.
Which service(s)

Not sure about every other state but in PA you can get Fios TV . They did away with all of their old equipment and are upgrading to small Google streaming devices. I just had to return my mom’s equipment last week she moved into an assisted living facility that only has comcast . The picture on comcast and Fios are very good. I hooked up her TV a few days ago and she seems happy. They have a small streaming box now with cloud storage. It’s basically what you like watching and recording. You can’t beat the quality of the hopper but that’s my opinion.
