Hi. Iwas in here a few days ago asking about American Life tv and FTA. Now because i am at work my wife has been talking to the guy who is installing the system. He tells her there is no problem in putting the system up but wants to know what we want it for since there is not that much up there. He says he can put a different LNB on and he can pick up FTA and KU band subcribition programming it we want to get those. So now i am confused. Is there a way with a 31" dish to pick up both FTA and KU band subcribtion programming. Because of my neighborhood i can not have anything bigger than a 31" dish. If i have to have a 4dtv is there one that has a dvr fuction with it. Thank You for any help. Dennis

Ok, about the 4dtv>No DVR function on it, I don't see why you couldnt buy a dvr and connect it though. Maybe some other members here that have done that will answer also.
Secondly, if I understand your question, somebody is installing a FTA system for you, and offering you a chance to 'pirate' pay tv. It's illegal to steal subscription tv, I would stay away from that. Your new system may work for a few days, and then get shut down. You will find more tv programming for free, than you ever thought about with a clean legal free to air system and a 1m dish. If you already have a working dishnetwork or direct system, you could use your new dish to pick up the signals and route to the dishnet rec, but you'd need 2 lnbs or more to get all the programming.
More trouble than its worth, I'd stick with the legal setup and enjoy it. These pirate boxes get turned off regularly, and they're not worth the trouble nor possible penalties involved.

I'm confused on what the installer is trying to say when he says that there isn't much up there. My standard LNB picks up probably 150 to 200 channels on Ku-Band at any point in time.

If you are looking to get DirecTV or Dishnetwork channels, I would put up a seperate reflector for any subscriptions you chose to get to those services and keep the 31" free-to-air dish for regular Ku signals only.

A standard LNB will let you subscribe to the 4DTV stuff up on Ku, so a DirecTV or Dishnetwork LNB isn't required for 4DTV.

Thanks. I think he has something sneeky he wants me to get involve in too. I think i am going with another installer. Thanks for your help. Dennis
