Component to HDMI converters

Has anyone used any Component to HDMI converters. How is the signal quality? Is there noticeable degradation? I'm looking at these two:

In order to share a STB and or a DVD player with a remote TV by using one cable instead 4 to 8.

Just because the limited number of ports on my Pioneer Elite. It has two shared HD input ports that take either component or HDMI but only one type of input can be active on the port. I realize I could utilize one for component and one for HDMI and then use switches on both of them but the other half isn't very good with tech so I'd rather have one port that doesn't involve using a switch hook straight to our Sat receiver. That's all.

Which Pioneer elite receiver? Most of the elites can output component video as HDMI; assuming you have one made in the last 2-3 years.

If that's the case, you don't need any convertor; you simply plug in the component video and it outputs as HDMI automatically.

You can always go with a reciever with HDMI switching. But it would cost a hell of a lot more. LOL!!

The Dish 622 will output both HDMI and Componnet at the same time. I use Component for my main tv then slave the HDMI to another room for identical programming. You would need nothing bit an HDMI cable long enough to reach the other TV.
FYI there is no difference between HDMI and componet picture quality. Both are excellent. PLUS you would not need an extra audio connection either.
