?
I have surfed the net and looked at FTA and i am royally confused on what i need to get / what is the best

here is what i am looking for

the best FTA receiver that does MPEG 2 & MPEG 4 & has a DVR built-in

if i can use RG-11 cable for it ?

would a c-band or a smaller moterized dish be best ? if so which dish feedhorns etc do i need?

thanx in advance

To me, there is no "One Size Fits All" solution.
Receiver that has fully working DVR: Pansat 9200 with DVB-S2 Add-On (has Blind Scan, but can't not display 4:2:2 video)
Receiver that displays the most formats: AZBox Elite or Premium, DVR does not work properly on most HD Feeds, no Blind Scan.

RG-11 - No Problem

Having both C and Ku is a must for me. You can have a Dish dedicated for each band, or have a BUD with a C / Ku Combo LNBF (DMX741 or CK1)

Kinda comes down to how much you want to spend.
You should be able to find a BUD locally, maybe even a "Bob Jones" Ku satellite dish too.
Check Craigslist, see what available, and stop at every place you see a BUD and knock on the door, you might e surprised.

Pllp,

I must agree completely with Lak. There simply isn't any one receiver that is totally perfect and that suits every notion. I do wish there was.

There are several flavors out there that do taste good, but they all lack in one regard or another. There is nothing that is "perfectly perfect".

ok thank you, so a c band BUD - question though, I had a friend years ago who had one and he had a subscription receiver (would get espn etc) so instead of that 4dtv reciver, just use the fta one for same dish ?

http://www.nfusionnova.net/category.php?catid=1 - anyone tried the receivers here ? i like making own dvr with a connectible hard drive

DMX741 or CK1 ku/ka lnb, what makes them 2 better than rest out there ?

again thanx for all your help

You can still get subscription programming with a big dish and a 4DTV receiver, though it's losing channels regularly. Check NPS and see what their packages look like these days, if its pay tv you seek. NPS - Your One Call Solution - CBAND Satellite Programming C-band.
ESPN refuses to sell to home dish owners, haven't in 2-3yrs now. Unless you're a pizza dish subscriber, then they love your money. There's plenty of other channels still around for now though, on 4DTV AND free-to-air too.

i just mentioned the 4dtv, meaning the same dish (ca-band with ka/ku lnb could both work with an fta and a 4dtv reciver, i would not use a 4dtv reciver unless they had alot of channels not carried on directv,

about 50 at last count
