Hi guys,

I am making this new thread because of two things, first because I own a pansat 5000HC and I have some comments or complaints about it and the second because there are many people would like to see an easy chart which compare easily between the different recievers of Pansat.

About the chart you can find it here at this webpage:

http://www.global-cm.net/PansatCompare.html

And here is some critisism about my Pansat5000

Maybe my problem also is because I never had any other FTA reciever before to make comparison with it, and 5000 is my first baby, I know its heavy one but that is my destiny.
So here are my complaints guys and if any of them are not strange for an FTA reciever please tell me.

My complaints.

1- It generates alot of heat after some hours of use.
2- It makes some noise not huge but it makes what is enough to bother a sensetive ears like mine, and I was thinking maybe this noise is because of the HD, because it sounds some like a c0mputer working or a CDROM.
3- The speed was not as fast as I expected, and when I say speed I mean something like changing channels, yes it takes less than second but still it makeS a puse for a moment and this moment bothers me or at least I did not expect it, specially with a reciever which carrys such a high memory.
4-Scaning channels is also not as fast as I expected it to be, some takes a minute or less others could take minutes, and ofcourse if I am doing smart search that would be another story.
5-I am not enjoying so much 5000's window, Ofcourse I am not asking them to bring me XP window, but I wished if the window was more fun and not boring, I mean it looks like atary games, anybody remember atary guys.

What you think guys, are these things are common normal and I should take it easy or I am just an extra senstive man?
And hopefully comments will help anybody who is going to buy the 5000 to check first if any of my points matters with him/her or not, if not so go for it, but I recommend that you should start with another baby first, then you can go for that thing later after you will have the enough experience.
But if you are asking for advantges of pansat5000, so you better comeback to the chart, and do not expect that pansat will tell you the problems of its recievers, they always want to show the good part.

Finally I hope this was helpfull guys, have fun, and any comments are so welcomed

Oh baby baby its wild world............Just put a smile :)

1 & 2. The heat and noise are probably related to the HD.
3. Any satellite receiver I have see takes some time to aquire the next channel. having said that I think the Coolsat is a litle faster than the Pansats.
4. Coolsat with the new firmware has the fastest blind scan. No satellite I do takes over 5 minutes and some are under 3.
5. I agree with you here. Most current FTA receivers use 256 colors. If they upgraded this it would make for a much better presentation.

You have one of the few receivers out there with a hard drive so you have it good! But I do hope they continue to improve FTA receivers in general.

The tuners on a most receivers generate a lot of heat.
Add to that the MPEG2 decoder along with the powersupply and you have a nice furnace all ready for winter.

I wonder who is the first to liquid-cool their units. Everyone always said it was impossible for computers, but it isn't. :D

That was good point, and do you think the upgrade to a better resolution could be easy and throw a firmware or you are expecting it to exist in only totally new recievers?

I hope so too, and I hope also that the FTA market will be more rich and not so poor like it is right now, I hope the conditions will change and the FTA in North America will change to be like Europe and North Africa, those people are really lucky they have hundereds and hundereds of channels from every kind, and the FTA market there is growing so fast, and also the prices are going down with this enourmous growth, alot of the paid channels in North America which is coming from Europe from Asia and middle east they are mostly all free there.

And let me live on this hope ;)

But I wonder if there are any SATS are flying now in the North of the American content? because I notice that the motor cover only the South and part of the South East and South West, is there any thing up north guys?

I would think that would not be firmware upgradable. There is said to be a new chip out that is the CPU chip for FTA receivers. Hopefully it will support higher screen resolution and color and Mfgs. will use it in their boxes.
