Communal dish for apt renters?

I manage a small apt complex (24 units among four buildings). Right now, each tenant has his/her own dish. We are having new roofs installed this spring and want to decrease the number of dishes.

I'm told that it is possible to have a communal dish installed on each roof that will service all the renters in each building.

I don't (yet) have satellite TV service; so I know next to nothing about something like this. I don't even know who to call, Dish Network or a local installer or ??

Can someone enlighten me on all this?

Thanks!

J

I don't know anything but the Q-Box setup is what DISH has for MDU (multi dwelling unit) environment

The Q-Box allows compatible DISH Network satellite receivers to work in a commercial QAM MDU environment. The Q-Box connects in the home between the satellite receiver and the QAM-enabled wall plate, receiving the QAM-modulated signal and remodulating it as QPSK so the satellite receiver can decode it. The satellite receiver needs updated Q-Box-compatible software to be able to work with the Q-Box.

Tech Portal : (choose receiver model) : Equipment : Q-Box

What your asking for can be done but not cheap. getting a copany to come in and have one feed every existing customers needs are not going to be cheap.

Ex. Just got to a Virgin bulding only 2 sats in the whole building on apt patio's we will be installing an MDU setup for Direct and DPP switches for Dishnetwork.

Owners of buidling will pay for all hardware. customers who are existing will pay $75 to get on the new sat system if they wish to remove the patio install... New Customers will be referd to us directly not to the 800's for direct or dish and any mantnice of the system will be handled buy use same day or next day.

In your case removing all existing sats and then placing new gear will cost some money .. Each customer culd be out $29-99 to have the compony come out and relocate/ install a new dish. Or if you can find a good local company they might put up bolth dish and direct and charge each customer a small fee bassed off of what they have instaled curently.

IF you do get one make sure they install Polarity lockers and taps for the KA/KU Directv dish system as it wll not work right without it unless feeding 16tuners (SD systems&HD systems have one and DVR/HD-DVR have 2) Then any new customers that come in you refer directly to that local office..

Using local office gives you many benifets same day/ next day service Insuracne incase the tech's drill through a gas line. and you will alwase know who is coming to your building..
