Can someone explain that please; "do they play on OLN now" (now Versus) - they aren't an exclusive carrier of any one team, just a hefty dose of select NHL games. So I would think the correct answer to the original question should really be NO; right?

I only see 7 Flyer's games on OLN/Versus all season.

Last year, when ever my Wings were on OLN HD (at the time , channel 95) I was blacked out. Being 50 miles from Detroit, 500 feet across the Ohio border. I was considered too close I guess, but D* won't give me FSN-D HD because I am too far away ( I have to pay extra for it).
Do I need to buy the NHL C.I. Package in order to get them in HD, D* already told me several times that I should be getting the FSN-D in HD and I don't, I would hate to pay another what $ 150 dollars to find out I don't get them again.
They are on in HD 7-8 times on VS this year and 35 more games on FSN- D and I may not be able to get any of them....

Comcast is the majority shareholder of the Flyers. Ed Snider the former owner is now a monirity owner but is President of Flyers and Sixers.

Once in a while...Actually twice.....2/12 at home to Detroit and 2/19 at home to Boston..Those are the only two appearances the Flyers will make on what is now "Versus".....No longer OLN.....

if baseball can come back from strikes, why not hockey?

The NHL did ..The issue is ESPN didn't see any value in the NHL property so they declined to bid on the game package....NBC was stuck in a contract with the NHL..
I love hockey..But quite frankly the tv ratings are pitiful....Versus go the package for next to nothing....
I think with the rule changes that have opened up the game and the referees being much more diligent on calling the obstruction penalties so these guys can skate without having defender dragging behind with a handful of sweater the league may very well find itself in a position to get a better TV deal..We'll see

A buddy of mine hits Comca$t with an email about DirecTV every so often. Last reply he got said that Prism (pre-runner of Comcast back in the day when all we had were local cable companys) signed some contract with the FCC. It's set to expire this year and they (Comcast) will be negotiating rights to put their channel(s) on satellite.

Now...I don't know if I buy thr FCC contract bs because if such a thing exists (notice they didn't call it a license), then it's not hindered any of the other sportschannels around the country from making their channel available via satellite. I think it's just another bs excuse from Comcast. Before, they claimed they didn't have the capability to broadcast from within the Spectrum or Comcast Center because Prism's equipment was incompatible. Well, once the Sixers games were broadcast on the NBA package via Comcast, that kinda blew their story. In the past year or two, we've had Flyers broadcasts via Comcast on Center Ice.

Comcast is completely full of crap and anyone in the Philly area who has seen the "can't get this on satellite" commercials already knows this.

(Btw, if anyone wants to see the exact email from Comcast, I can probably get my buddy to forward it to me)

huh?

PRISM didn't beam up their signal via satellite. Its done via microwave & fibre. So technically by law they don't have to allow it to satellite. The "contract" is no contract. That's bull. Its until they decide to beam it up via satellite (which will probably be never considering who the owner is)

Here's a little clarity on what I posted...either my buddy read it wrong or I heard it differently. I thought he said they did sign something with the FCC that prevented them from being on satellite.

Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia is a terrestrial cable television station. This means that we are not offered on satellite. You will not be able to receive any of our broadcasts outside of the Philadelphia viewing area.

The reason for this dates back to 1993 when Prism, our former station did not sign the FCC regulated satellite agreement. At this time they simply did not have the money. Prism, folded and we took over their airwaves in 1997. We needed an outlet in order to get our station on the airwaves so we signed with the new (at the time) up and coming cable company, Comcast. In this ten-year contract we agreed to only be offered on their Comcast cable carriers (with other cable companies like Blueridge, Adams Cable, Service Electric allowed to provide our station locally). After this contract expires in 2008 then we will renegotiate our options. We are very sorry about this situation and we understand that there are many Philadelphians, outside the area that would like to receive our station. This will be kept in mind when renegotiations come up. Thank you for your question.

March 22, 1984...Flyers Defeat Penguins, 13-4

On this date in 1984, the Flyers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Spectrum, 13-4.

The Flyers led 4-1 after the first period and 6-4 after the second period and then outscored the Penguins in the third period, 7-0.

Seven different Flyers scored at least one goal in the contest, led by Ilkka Sinisalo and Dave Poulin who each scored three goals in the game. Other multiple-goals scorers for the Flyers were Tim Kerr and Len Hachborn, who each scored two goals. For Sinisalo, it was his first hat trick in the NHL.

Kerr led all players with six points in the game (2G,4A). His first goal of the game was his 50th goal of the season. He became the fourth player in Flyers history to reach the mark. Fifteen of the 18 skaters in the game for the Flyers recorded at least one point.

The 13 goals scored in the game by the Flyers set a new team record for most goals in a game. The previous record was 12 goals, which was scored in a game against the Detroit Red Wings on February 2, 1974. The 13 goals still stands as the team record, only being tied once - against Vancouver on October 18, 1984, in a 13-2 win over the Canucks.

remember folks Eddie Johnston was claimed to basically throw the 83-84 season so that he could have the #1 draft choice in the next draft and we all know who that was. Yes sir that was the next "great one" Mario Lemieux!!!!! I betcha if it wasn't for his health conditions he could go out there today lace up his skates and still show some great moves, that's how magnificient this fellow is. Yet he is letting his youngsters take all the limelight right now instead of talking about moving the team like he could be. Sure it came up for a week or two but there hasn't been a word said about it at all since then.
