Code for Sylvania 6900DTE; could I use a laptop?

I got a functional 6900DTE HD box for a good price. The catch - no remote.

No biggie. I figured I could get a universal remote to control basic features. If not I could at least change channels with the front buttons, right?

WRONG. I cannot do a channel search! There only are power, up and down buttons on the front.

I cannot find the universal code for this anywhere, despite a search on Google and here.

I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas? I don't need full functionality at this point; I just want to do a channel scan.

Is it possible to use a laptop to emulate a remote, if I got it close enough? And if so, how would I know what codes to use?

Any ideas are appreciated. Eventually I'll get a remote programmed or something (the "official" remotes are sold by a company for $50+ for a very very cheap POS).

Thanks!
