I know HD MM said that Arena Football is not one of the major sports:

an Arena Football Championship doesn't count btw. I'm talking Major Sports Teams. Ie: Cavs Indians or Browns.

But I am sure he saw the Gladiators beat the Force- in Georgia, no less!

Knowing him, I am sure any Cleveland team winning a title would be huge for him. I'll bet if their old WNBA team ever won, he'd go wild!

Hey, after a dismal basketball and baseball season, it's nice to see ANY team do well in Cleveland right now. :)

Dismal basketball season ???

Didn't they make the playoffs and advance from there, or did they lose in the first round.

I'd say the Cleveland fans are getting quite fickle, it was not that long ago that any of the Cleveland teams made playoffs, do you remember those days ???

LOL!!

Well, when you make it to the finals...and the next season you come in with high expectations, only to see things have taken a step backwards, what-with LeBron carrying the team (i.e, no support what-so-ever), I'd call it a disappointment and dismal.

Truth be told, since I moved here in the early 90s, it seems like at least one Cleveland team makes the playoffs. Early 90s being the Mark Price - Craig Ehlo era. Mid 90s - almost now, Cleveland Indians.

I don't consider last year a "disappointment and dismal" season by any means. For two straight years we lost to the eventual NBA Champions.

And as for you moving to Cleveland in the 90's, you may be a bit spoiled. You need to cherish these days as historically, it has actually NEVER been this good in Cleveland as a sports fan. If you want to talk about "disappointing and dismal", all you have to do is reference the 1970's-1980's.....

I was at the Lake County Captains game last night. (Single A affiliate to the Tribe). We beat the Hickory Crawdads 9-2 btw! It was $1 night! $1 beers, $1 hot dogs. Someone in front of the box office even gave us free tickets! Super cheap date night!

Anyways, by the time I got home, the Gladiators just started the second half of their game. One more win to Arena Bowl XXII !!!! However, it won't be an easy task getting there. Our next opponent is against the Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Ron Jaworski owned #1 seeded Philadelphia Soul in the Wachovia Center! The game is played on 7/12/2008 @ 1:00 PM.

We're really playing our hearts out and I feel we got one of the best QB/WR combos in this league. Cleveland will gladly take an AFL Championship anyday. Hell, it's been since 1964, since this city could claim a sports championship of any kind.

Go Gladiators!

Then again, on the topic of cities with dismal sports success, it's worth noting that the Gladiators opponent to get to the Arena Bowl is the Philadelphia Soul.

The Gladiators are playing the Philadelphia Soul right now on ESPN-HD.

The Soul are currently winning early in the 2nd quarter by a score of 14-7.

The winner of the Gladiators/Soul game will play in the AFL Championship against the winner of the Grand Rapids Rampage vs. the San Jose Sabre Cats!

How's this for some cheesey logo's.....

Grand Rapids Rampage vs. San Jose Sabre Cats. Saturday, July 12th. 3:30pm, ESPN HD.

BTW SabresRule, what do you think of this AFL team jocking off your hockey team from Buffalo? I actually may prefer this logo over that Buffa-Slug! ;)

Philly's up 70-35.

Sorry, HD MM.

No worries, it just wasn't meant to be. This Gladiators team was playing in Las Vegas last year and only managed 2 wins. They had a helluva run this year though.

The day that the Cleveland Sports Championship drought will be broken will come from a well deserving team. When that day comes, the entire Cleveland sports nation will rejoice in unison! (Hopefully that day will be sometime in my lifetime!)
