ok it was warm enough to go out and run new coax to my old big dish.
pulled off the feedhorn cover and wow looks like it failed in part of its job
cause it was almost like a condo in there , luckly nothing was moving lol

so i cleaned all that out and ran new coax to the old lnbf ita a cal- amp 35 degree

now i know i will have questions cause i don't know if i remember how the wires went lol i know 1 small wire goes to the polarity on the lnbf
the others wires goto the motor.

what i didn't think about is i ordered a new BSC621 ( it does c & ku in one unit) but i already have ku motorized system. i guess the only thing gained by ku on this big dish is maybe a better signal?? its a 10 ft odem mesh

so if i use the cal amp lnbf i will have to use the gi550 to change the polarity
(it will also move the dish). but if i hook the BSC621 my coolsat 5000 can change the polarity right??

the motor shaft is rusted , i placed some oil on it but didn't clean it yet , how do ya'll clean the motor shaft. I can probably get most of the visable rust cleaned off via wire brush & sand paper but i don't know about the parts i cant see. I guess i can remove it and take it apart and clean it??

ok thanks guy i know questions will follow
heres some pics

mine was rusted up real bad when i first started messing with it again. i tried to clean it with some sand paper and a brush also still it was frozen. does yours move at all. mine wouldnt move at all...i just heard the motor making a noise and it would stop and say actuator error

You may find the LNB easier to work on if you run the dish extream east or west ?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing....the ladder seems to be a little too much weight for the dish? Another is have help hold the dish and let it down when you take the arm off (you were going to clean it, right?) I think theres some schematics if you haven't seen em. If you need help on how it may go together, read post number five under "24 inch Actuator schematics" http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=50214
And with the dish off the mover arm the dish will go to face almost downwards.

Just wanted to add, thats a nice dish you have there! I like!
Ps. You funny guy, it does look like a condo under there, lol.

Hey George,

That's a nice dish!!

I have a 24" actuator that I have to take apart and clean too.

Hey Somery, thanks for the link to the schematics. Mine does move, but it makes some noise, and the outer part of the shaft is rusty.

I'm hoping to clean it all inside and out and use it on another dish.

Fred

If you take off the actuator arm to clean it up you can use a 12 volt trolling motor battery to run it in and out, at least that is what I did. I also put a boot on mine to keep it out of the weather after I got it cleaned up. Your arm looks like new compared to what I'm using, but it works fine.

Just don't try to force anything without knowing what you're doing (i.e. open it up if you have to). I ended up stripping out some vinyl threads in my original actuator arm by trying to run the motor and physically force the arm to move :(

thanks guys , lots of good information ;o)
i didn't move the motor or even try cause it was real rusty , just think i will take it apart and clean... thats why i didn't run all the way east or west to access.

well i've noticed several places where the square tubing has bulged ( figure from freezing) so there is some damage will take some pictures later but looks ok for structure integraty...

i moved my arm with a battery also. worked fine with me. and like dfergie says. you can even use that. i've tried it all lol

ok motor is off and its a von weise 24 inch ( shaft was 28 1/2 inches)
its actually in pretty good shape for being outside since 1991 lucky it has a boot cover for the motor and the motor & gear parts look new so just a little re grease for them and back to work.

The shaft is another story , its rusted and the inside of the shaft tube is also rusted . new seals would be nice ( if someone knows where to get them the o ring might not be a problem) i will have to clean them and try to figure out how to clean the inside of the shaft tube.. ( luckly nothing was rusted together or too much so it should clean up ...... might be time for a dremil tool lol lol

here are some pictures , hopefully i will get to post some cleaned up pictures soon lol lol

I wish my gears inside mine looked that good.

I have had it apart, but didn't clean it then. Just put some oil on to keep it from rusting further.

I have a big job cleaning mine up. :(

Hey George,

I was going to have to do this job anyway, so after re-reading this thread and looking at your pictures, I decided today was the day.

I took the 24" Von Weise that is going on the family C-Band setup apart. Had to take some of the pieces next door and use the wire wheel on them. The inner tube was pitted pretty bad and the worm gear had to be cleaned up from one end to the other.

Greased everything back up, put it back together and hooked up the old Drake to the kids mini-dvd player and tried it out. Must have ran it from one extreme to the other half a dozen times.

Everything seems to work, so it is ready for the Sami dish. It ought to run a few more years. :D

I'm glad you posted your pictures and thanks to somery for the link to the schematic.

Fred

oh i uploaded the schematic for the von weise also lol it will be in the new area

still cleaning my motor its another project.....
