Took both of mine apart lastnight and glad that I did. The mouse was full of cat hairs and the gears and wheels covered with grime, the keyboard had stuff that had fallen inside such as my daughters crumbs plus there was more cat hair and some of the keys had stuff on them that I hadnt noticed.

I normaly do this at work when Im requisitioned over to the shipping office to fill in for the clerk there so that I minimize my chances of catching one of the office bugs and because I cant stand to work in a dirty enviroment.

Along with my IBM clicky keyboards, I have a few of the Microsoft Intellimouse Pro, the old heavy one with the wheels and stuff inside. These have to be occasionally cleaned to get rid of the crud.

Yeah, I'm weird. I like all the latest software with all the oldest input devices.

My biggest keyboard problems are with older kids (50 years +) that seem to feel compelled to share their coffee with the keyboard. I've just recently been able to get them to flood the keyboard with water in the big sink without calling half a dozen other people and asking them what to do.

I'm still looking for a coffee resistant keyboard that actually works for typists. I'm currently trying one that has a full-coverage rubber membrane under the keys. It has already survived one swig of black coffee.

Cats are evil.

Hp uses ball and gear mice on all but the pricey boxes and I have an hp.

Check out xoxide.com for water proof keyboards and other goodies.

"The mouse was full of cat hairs and the gears and wheels covered with grime"

When the optical mice came out, I bought a bunch of them and replaced all the wheel ones for all my users. I got tired of calls saying that the mouse didn't move and the wheel was just full of crap.

Van,

The optical mice are cheap now, they will save you a lot of cleaning.
