Clark Howard fires DishNetwork.....

Agree, the 15 seconds thing is absurd. I know if they called my grandma it might take her 15 MINUTES to get from the bedroom to the kitchen! They just need to be more friendly!

1st it is only for DVR DUOs that the fee is $17. And while that is more than we were paying, it isn't as much as it appears on the surface. They changed form DVR fee per unit + equipment fee to DVR fee per account + equipment fee. They did increase the overall cost though.

I'm not thrilled that they did that, but Dish has always been a bit more expensive in equipment/dvr fees over Direct.

In your shoes I might have made a change also, but I wouldn't be here complaining about it every day.

Guess what? $17 is $17, on the surface, under the surface, above the surface, you can spin it however you like, it's still $17, and too much.

What do I think? I think Clark Howard messed with the bull and got the horns!.If he would have read any of these Dishnetwork satellite posts anywhere he would have known what would gradually happen.Intelligence is no excuse not to use your common sense.Except for those that think they are above the rules as specified in the Dishnetwork agreement. So read it,learn it and abide by it,or go elsewhere.:deal:

No where in the Dish Network agreement does it say when you pay your bill in full each month we can treat you like a criminal and harass you on the telephone just to make sure you actually have what your paying for there.

Please show me that in the user agreement.

Just got a letter from DISH saying that to protect my HD reception they need to replace the converter box on the non-HD set and reorient one of the dishes at no charge. Calling them, they said the HD/DVR box was current and to make the switches they wanted an two-year commitment. A call to another rep said that they want to switch me (here in Florida) from the "Western arc" to the "Eastern arc" satellite). Coincidentally, my commitment to DISH expires next month. What gives...are they trying to snooker me? I'm inclined to do nothing and see what gives. Any insight or opinions?

Lot's of posts on this site about this. You are probably being shifted to Eastern Arc (EA), as the rep stated. That means all your boxes must be able to decode MPEG-4 signals. Older boxes don't, and will need to be replaced. They are investing in you again, and want some assurance that they can recoup their money and make a buck off you; hence, the 2 year commitment. Dish is moving some programming, esp HD programming, from the 61.5 slot to 72.7. EA will get you all the programming, from 61.5, 72.7 and 77.

You're not being snookered, it's on the up and up. Call back and get it done quickly, I'm sure there will be a backlog building up as they shift large numbers of people to the new system.

But Clark fired them. Dish lost a sub. And if a Satellite Company called me and wanted me to do this I would tell them to take me to court if you think I'm doing something wrong.

Here is what it says...

E. Telephone/Broadband Connection. To optimize the operation of your Equipment, you must continuously connect each DISH Network receiver on your account to the same land-based telephone line and/or a broadband home network. Failure to connect each receiver to the same land-based telephone line and/or a broadband home network may result in interruption or disconnection of Services. We may charge you a TV2 Receiver Connection Fee for each dual-tuner receiver that is not connected to the same land-based telephone line and/or a broadband home network.

Don't see anything in there about an audit. Also they need to update the TV2 section since that price in now built in the montly price for the receiver.

In addition a number of people reporting these audits are saying their receivers ARE hooked to their phone lines or broadband... although Clarke said his were not..

May result in interruption or disconnection of service = possible audit to me.

Not at all. No where does it says you will be called and harassed on the phone and not be allowed to do anythiing other then what they tell you on the phone.

They should just shut the receivers in question off like their agreement says. If the customer wants them back on then they should call in and verify the info, not be called when your in the middle of doing something and being held hostage on your own telephone.

As I said before though, I would actually WELCOME them to come visit me, that would be the most customer positive thing they can do.

I agree.+1.:)

Dish is also welcome to come visit my installation as well, but only by prior appointment!

(My guard dogs take care of those who arrive on-site without appointments...!)

I watch Clark Howard each week. Seems like a great guy. I say that if Dish Network makes things this difficult to be a customer then they do not deserve the business.
