From the "orbit data" page. Still at 138W. Beginning to look as if the period from launch to light-up will be similar to E11, 41 or more days. (Feb. 20?)

There's still gobs of time to mosey on over to 129W and transfer programming before the end of the month. I'm not guaranteeing they will, I'm just saying...
 
Remember, all, Ciel-2 is a part spotbeam sat. They take extra time to test than a pure CONUS sat like E11. There are not 32 TPs to check, there are 161 on 54 different beams (including CONUS, but not Canada)

One thing working in it's favor is it only has to go from 138 to 129 (9 degrees versus the 28 degrees E11 had to move).

Once we see it start moving, we will probably start seeing programming from it in a week.

Don't think just because the STA for E5 to move begins Jan 15th that that's when they plan on moving it. It's a 30 day window, and they can request an extension.
 
Nevertheless, they're late.

They need to move equipment to different geographic locations to test all the spotbeams, so I guess that takes some time. But that should have been accounted for in the projections.

What projections? Where have they come out and said "we will complete testing XX/XX/2009 and begin operations YY/YY/2009?" The closest I've heard is some Dish folks saying "the end of the month." That's still a couple weeks away.
 
Moving from 138 to 129 could be done in a matter of a day or two, if they are in a hurry, couldn't they?

Yes that is possible but I wouldn't expect it because it would use a significant amount of fuel. I would it expect it will take about 5 - 7 days.
 
Oh, let's not waste any fuel. That baby might be in orbit for a long, long, LONG time.

Oh, OK. If you're going to play dumb then I'm not going to help.
 
More than 2 weeks, me thinks, 19 days maybe.
I hate to say it but I'm done with Dish Network... I can't use the channels I pay for, there really is no promise from Dish that this new Sat will fix the signal drop problems those of us on the Pacific coast have (they will not even acknowledge that there is a problem with 129)

To top it off, they don't seem to be able to negotiate a deal with the ABC affiliates here in the PacNW area so we're without that service as well...

Now if I can just get out of the balance of my 24 month "contract" with them...

Sorry to drag this off topic but I'm just so fed up trying to watch something I'm paying for, sitting on th edge of my seat, getting up each morning wondering "will this be the day I can finally enjoy HD channels??" and finding out that it will still be weeks away...

Bummed!

Hey Wayne, I'm with ya man. I'm in Puget, altho don't have signal problems on 129.

Do you have a 24" dish, like you're supposed to? Or just a regular 20" Dish500 for 129? You also might have a bad connector somewhere along the line. You want to use RG6 and eliminate all connectors if possible, except at the ends.
