Would I be correct in assuming that on a Directv receiver a signal reading of at least 50 is needed before there is any hope of receiving a station.

I have an antenna hooked up to my H20, and the signal is 54, but even in clear weather is experiences drop-outs. Can you then say that a sat minimum signal would be the same?

They used to tell us 70 or better ,but I've seen stable picture while signal been in the 50's. But if it started storming , you'd be in trouble.

The SD's must be wider. I'm surprised there isn't a mile range or map available somewhere that shows it.

Providing those who lie about their whereabouts (aka fraud) with information to support their habit is not something they feel compelled to do.
