Charlie Chat Recap -- March 10th

I recorded this show and was surprised not to see Speed HD or FX HD shown on the screen as future added HD channels. I came here thinking I must have missed something. Charlie did say something like DISH would have most if not all HD channels in the future. It is not a real big issue for me having both E* & D* HD, so I record these on DirecTV instead. At sometime in the future I would like to drop D* and just use E*, if they have the same HD programing. From what I see this may be another year. Dish Local HD for Indianapolis is also a requirement since I must use D*'s DVR to record OTA other two programs I may also want in HD. Adding another VIP 622 with only one OTA turner, would not always work. So my investment in choosing both D* & E* has been the right choice these past years, not having to choose to miss a recording of Local OTA HD programing or a HD channel, on either.

I know it is only TV, but life is short and we both enjoy our HT Room and the expanded DVR storage with DISH, and additional HD programing with DirecTV. With the increases in gas and everything else, crazy drivers, and so on, we are enjoying staying home more than ever before. Not for everyone but we are getting our moneys worth. It is like adding an in-ground swimming pool to your house. If you don't use it much, it is really expensive, however if you have children and they and their friends and your family enjoy and use it a lot, it is not. I also read someplace that the most expensive tool you may have in your garage, is a snowblower, since it may only be used two or three time a year! Well if you live in the Mid-West this year, that may not be true, at least this year. Enjoy....

Does the 612 have OTA?

Charlie and Jim talked a lot about the 622/722 and mentioned a "soon"-to-be-released 612. But at no time did they ever mention that the 622 and 722 have an OTA tuner, even though they do. Does anybody know about the 612? If it has OTA it looks like it will be great for my bedroom TV, which at the moment is not connected to Dish at all.

They're a bit behind the times. We've been installing 612s for weeks. Yes, it has an OTA tuner. It is essentially like a 622, but for 1 TV only. 2 sat tuners, 1 OTA.

I was fairly impressed with the Charlie Chat last night. We did get an idea of what might be coming. ALthough I dont quite get it. Why mention channels you "may not offer"? Negotiation tactic?

Speed, FX and Fox Business HD all being owned by News Corp which is suing Dish now. Will probably be a negotiated deal where Dish picks up these channels in exchange for keeping Fox News in AT200...

I see people mentioning Dish's commitment. What commitment did you hear last night? I didn't hear a single solid commitment. Did they give you a specific channel and when it would be live? They mentioned that a bunch of channels are coming soon maybe. Did I miss a commitment? I switched to D 3 weeks ago, I was hoping this CC didn't leave me regretting the choice. While Charlie talks about COMING SOON, I'm already watching most of these channels.

I do still have E* in case something monumental was going to happen but it doesn't look like that's anytime soon.

Charlie Chat Recap

It is disappointing to me this news about the new HD channels being added who knows when. The competition is leading on this race and will continue to do so. This service is not cheap and now not offering at least what the other company offers. I also received more than one offer from them and considering on jumping over. It is sad that as a paying consumer that for a service that should be at least at par at this time with the competion that the best they can do is add the HD channels the listed yesterday. I'm not wrong to think this way. What do you all think?

Furthermore Luigi, if E* adds these stations, at best they would just be coming up to par and matching D*. What are they doing to be the leader?

I don't think they are the leader in hd anymore. I am glad that I added Directv for all the hd channels that are available right now. I would love it if DISH had stayed the leader but they seem to be in a war over contracts and how much they are going to be charged for the hd channels . So no matter how many sats they launch this year , I think they will be behind on the count due to Charlie and his tough negotiation tactics.

Thinking of jumping to HD... Question Buffalo, NY & Renting

Possible poor installation.
