Heard through the industry grapevine last month that Chaparral Communications website was down and the telephone had been disconnected. While Chaparral hadn't manufactured anything in several years, the warehouse was still distributing NOS. We had been told by their sales staff that they had no plans to close, but had been offering clearance pricing on many bulk items during the past year. www.chaparral.net

Hadn't seen any posts on any sites about the Chaparral Communications closing, so thought I should post this announcement.

Sad to see a company that made such an impact on our industry and that has been around since the early days, close up shop. Better stock-up on Chaparral parts and feedhorns while they are still available.

Sad news indeed.

I used to install satellite TV systems in Napa in 1982 until I went to work at Chaparral in the Technical Services and Sales departments for four years from 1985 through 1989. That was a great time there, working for Taylor Howard and Bob Taggart.

Bob continued on with Chaparral after Taylor died trying to land his private plane after an engine failure during takeoff near his ranch in Calaveras County.

Just came across this post looking for information about a co-worker from Chaparral, David Shallenberger, K6VHP, who passed away in 2009.

I find myself missing the old gang, lately...
