hello everyone , i finally have my off-set antenna hoked up with a cband lnb and im pointed at the satellite that has national tv stations from honduras. my problem is the channel that i want it says its scrambled. how is that done?
is that normal for some ststaions to scramble their signal?
thanks
jose

yes it is very normal for stations to scramble their signal. Some companies sell receivers to subscribe (ala dish network & directv) and some are only for commercial receivers (like what cable companies use)

the channel i was wanting is Canal 5 -

TeleSistema Hondureño A PowerVu 3 3333 3331 Sp
Canal 5 El Lider A F 5 5555 5551 Sp
Telecadena 7 y 4 A F 7 7777 7771 Sp

Canal 5 is in the clear...just the 1st one is scrambled...powervu is for commercial receivers only

Need a big dish (C-band) for those chanenls

From Haiti, your looking at a 36-38 EIRP. Thats a 120-180 cm required.

You mentioned that you have a offset dish. At min, you need a 4-6 foot dish (6 would probably be more precise)

A cone shaped scaler ring will help on the offset.

you know that is weird, or maybe lyngsat is just not updated. but i can get the one that says scrambled. iam able to see telesystema and telecadena its just canal 5 that i cannot receive.
also how does someone obtain a comercial receiver?

Even if you are able to obtain a PowerVU receiver (the newer Scientific Atlanta 9850 series are up there in cost, around $500 used), it is very difficult to get them authorized (unless you are a commercial vendor such as a cable company)...

oh ok , im thinking now that the reason they scrambled is a money thing. they dont want people outside the country being able to watch soccer matches that closed circuit tv is charging money for.

There can be many reasons for scrambling, but almost every one of them comes down to money in the final analysis (especially in the States). There are cases, like some of the corporate channels that use PowerVU, where I believe the scrambling is to prevent corporate espionage :)
