The point is, until D* DOES actually makes HD Xtra go away...& they stop charging for those 9 channels as a separate tier...they SHOULD stay in their current (premium) block location...

Agree...but at least they moved it out of the premiums range.
Sometimes D* channel placements on some channels makes about as much sense as Comcraps...
They probably will quit charging for them once they are moved officially.
Lots of times, Placement is all about the money the station offered and the contract involved ...
Such as CNN being the 1st channel in the 200's instead of in the News section.

Jimbo,

I believe CNN pays to be in that spot as the 1st cable channel in the system. Dont hold me to it though.
You are correct ... that's what I was trying to say in my previous post, location has alot to do with the money you offered (bought positioning !) and the contract you agreed to at the time.

Makes ya wonder, just how much did CNN pay to get that spot, compare to others ?

Ugh... why do people defend dumb practices...

When you try to think of a channel's number without knowing it, you think of other channels like it..
"What channel is Smithsonian?" "I dunno, it must be near History ... nope .... must not have it"
That is how it would be for most people. It would not be:
"Oh, I am like the big shots who defend package ordering on satguys and other internet forums and have all the channels packages memorized. It's in the HD Extra pack, dear, so it must be in the 560s range."

Other than locals, I bet I have fewer than 20 channels memorized so "just knowing" a 3 digit number is not an option.
