Channels In the new TURBO HD pkgs

I have AT 250 plus HD ultimate, no locals, no DVR for $74.99. Does that mean that on August 1 I automatically have AT250 plus HD gold plus HD platinum for $74.99? Also, would that package include Encore HD? AT250 includes the West feed. I thought the HD version was the East feed that only comes with Starz.

I am getting service on the 29th, with the "free" home protection Plan.
I do not want that past the Free time, would that count in cancelling
my allHD, since I would be taking that off my account? Maybe I should just tell them I don't want that at all??

Or does that even matter?
Does not matter. You can remove it after your free period. Add it back again if you start experiencing problems that require equipment swap or service call.

From what has been said on the matter (and it is hard to know for certain what will happen until friday), it will most likely be Encore E HD and Encore W SD if you have AT250 and HD Gold (the equivalent of essential - so with ultimate you should be set)

Here is some info that I received today from a Dish Retailer:

Q3 Promotional Updates
DISH Network's Q3 starts off with a bang! DISH Network is on track for meeting their goal of 100 HD locals by the end of 2008, and is positioned to surpass their goal of 100 national HD channels by year's end - 5 months early! New programming packages offer customers more HD-only options, as well as new pricing tiers for HD upgrades to existing packages. Couple this with the new movie promotions, and you've got a recipe for fantastic sales! Read on to find out more!
New TurboHD Programming Packages - Effective August 1, 2008
DISH Network is creating 3 new packages of 100% HD, MPEG-4 content, starting at just $24.99/mo. They are called TurboHD Bronze, TurboHD Silver and TurboHD Gold.

  • TurboHD Bronze - 25 HD channels, $24.99/mo w/o locals
  • TurboHD Silver - 33 HD channels, $32.99/mo w/o locals
  • TurboHD Gold - 40 HD channels, $39.99/mo w/o locals
  • Locals are available for an additional $5.00/mo
  • Channel counts do not include HD RSNs, HD PPV, or HD VOD. Count also does not include the Big Ten Network HD, which is provided on a geographically limited basis and may require the purchase of the Multi-Sport Package.
Please note:
  • TurboHD packages require all MPEG-4 equipment on a customer account and are available to new customers only. This means even if a customer doesn't have an HDTV yet in all of the rooms in which they have a television, that customer may be "future-proofed" with a TurboHD package and DISH Network equipment.
  • Due to the all MPEG-4 equipment requirement, TurboHD packages are only available to customers who select a TurboHD package at the time of activation.
  • TurboHD packages are considered minimum qualifying programming for consumer promotional programs including DHA.
  • Customers who are currently subscribing to dishHD Absolute will be grandfathered into that package, as dishHD Absolute will no longer be offered to new or existing customers wanting to subscribe to it (effective August 1, 2008).
Three new levels of DishDVR Advantage for TurboHD packages!
For customers who want all-HD programming AND a DVR, DISH Network will have three new DishDVR Advantage options! All TurboHD DishDVR Advantage packages include an applicable core HD package, local channels, and first DISH Network DVR Service Fee. These three new packages will be added to the current DishDVR Advantage America's Top programming and DishLATINO programming lineup.

  • TurboHD Bronze DishDVR Advantage - $34.99/mo. (savings of $0.98/mo. over the price of each of the components purchased separately).
  • TurboHD Silver DishDVR Advantage - $39.99/mo. (savings of $3.98/mo. over the price of each of the components purchased separately).
  • TurboHD Gold DishDVR Advantage - $49.99/mo. (savings of $0.98/mo. over the price of each of the components purchased separately).
TurboHD Add-Ons to America's Top Packages - Effective August 1, 2008
There are customers who still want to receive standard-definition programming such as the America's Top packages along with their HD programming. One reason is that not all channels in the AT100 or higher programming packages are available in high-definition. Currently, the dishHD Essential package may be added onto AT100, AT100 Plus, AT200 or AT250 for $10.00/mo., which provides the available HD content contained within each of those applicable America's Top programming packages. Effective August 1, 2008, the dishHD packages will be renamed as follows:

  • BronzeHD add-on package available for AT100 and AT100 Plus ($10.00/mo.).
  • SilverHD add-on package for AT200 ($10.00/mo).
  • GoldHD add-on package for AT250 for ($10.00/mo.).
  • Additionally, dishHD Ultimate will be renamed "PlatinumHD".
  • The PlatinumHD add-on package may be added onto AT100 or AT100 Plus with BronzeHD, AT200 with SilverHD, or AT250 with GoldHD for an additional $10.00/mo.
  • The PlatinumHD add-on package may also be added onto any of the TurboHD packages (TurboHD Bronze, TurboHD Silver, or TurboHD Gold) for an additional $10.00/mo.
  • DishLATINO HD Packages will continue to be named DishLATINO Max HD Essential and DishLATINO Max HD Ultimate.
These packages break down as follows:
  • TurboHD Bronze - 25 HD channels, $10.00/mo
  • TurboHD Silver - 33 HD channels, $10.00/mo
  • TurboHD Gold - 40 HD channels, $10.00/mo
  • Channel counts do not include HD RSNs, HD PPV, or HD VOD. Count also does not include the Big Ten Network HD, which is provided on a geographically limited basis and may require the purchase of the Multi-Sport Package.

Which package has the 100 HD channels in it?
Dish TurboHD Gold + Platinum + all the movie packs + the multi-sports pack + NHL Center Ice + NBA League Pass + Locals (if you get em in HD) + All of the PPV... I think that is how....

45 " Nationals"
19 " Premiums"
26 sports nets (if they carry hockey or basketball)
6 PPV
4 Locals
-------
100 HD channels...

of course. if you can afford all of that...

So I sub to the AT250 + $10 hd add on.. Are any of the channels I currently get going to the Platinum Package, or am I in a good place right now?

Call me skeptical, but this release looks like its going to be TOO nice.. gaining a few Nationals (plus the Encore HD?) ... and even more so considering my HD Locals are scheduled to go live Tomorrow!

nope, platinum is just a new name for ultimate. If you have essential with AT250, you will merely gain the new stations added (Planet Green, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie, CBS College sports, and Encore E HD's)

Real happy with the Encore addition.. I've been wishing for some HD on that little 250 bonus for some time..

My wife will be real excited to see the wife beater channels in HD though.

me.. not so much :p

Now wait a minute, where again does it say that AT250 gets Encore East HD? We only have Encore West in SD now (even though that doesn't make sense with the prevalence of DVRs.)

Click on attached file in very first post in this thread, it shows what channels goes to what package, and Encore East HD is listed under HD Gold. I was surprised to see this too for the reason you stated, but it appears E* decided to include it in TurboHD Gold and AT250w/HD Gold. I will be curious to see if it will also come with the Starz pack and maybe the Encore Movie pack too. :)

I was thinking of getting dish for hd, but confused after reading this
thread, what happened to the 29.99 hd only package, and how many
channels, maybe i should consider direct tv or even comcast.

It is called hd absolute. You will get all hd channels and the new ones too. To get the premiums hd you have to subscribe to a premium channel. You will not get your rsn hd in the absolute and the package will change next year. 29.99 will only exist for about 7 more months. Then you will have to pick one of the hd turbo packages.

Dish does such a horrible job of advertising all around. The confusing mess that is their ever changing mess of programming packages is just one good example.

I agree, most subs will be confused. We have the info here (and most of us still are!). Joe six pack doesnt.

Sorry if this has already been answered..

Right now I have a 622 and AT200 and HD Ultimate, but I have SD programming for a tv in the house thats not HD. If I we're to go to absolute, what happens to my SD programming? I'll have to pay for the lowest SD package, right?

I also have a 622 with an HD and SD set. I have HD absolute. If this is your only receiver, this is not a problem. The 622 down converts the HD for the SD set, as you notice it does now. Plus, with several exceptions, you generally get the SD versions of your HD channels.

If you want it, better pull the trigger by tommorrow.
