New to the forums, lots of good info!

I have a 625 DVR. I would like to know if there is any way to switch a timer recording on tv2 to continue recording on tv1? My wife sometime run into a program recording on the tv2 input when she wants to watch the live feed on that tv.

Thanks for the input.

:welcome to Satelliteguys!

If your receiver is in dual mode do this. On your remote hit menu-8-6 this will bring up the record plus menu. From here you can enable record plus. You can then tell the DVR what tuner the timers default to. This will set the default tuner that the DVR will record on.

Also if you have timers already set (not timers already recording) you can change what tuner the program will record on, by editing the timer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I would still like the default to be tv2, but on the somewhat rare occasion that she wants to watch something on that tv when something happens to be recording, can it be switched mid-record to tv1.

Nope, can't change it during mid record as far as I know.

This happens sometimes at my house. When it got to be a problem my wife started managing the timers. We have a bunch of timers already setup we record Everybody Loves Raymond, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs all the time, then there is the off the cuff stuff like the Gospal of Judas we recorded. My wife will go through the timer list and modify the tuners the stuff is recording according to our viewing needs. It's not the best system but it works.

Thanks again for the reply. Now I can move on to my next brilliant idea, which is to split the tv2 feed from my 322 and send it to the vcr in the bedroom. That way she can view live tv through the vcr when the 625 is recording.

BTW, I like the avatar. Do you mind if I pass it on to my Dad, a Marine from the vietnam era?

You can split the feed from tv2, but you will be forced to watch whatever is on tuner 2 on both tv's. Use a good splitter.

I have my 522 set up that way. TV1 is in my bedroom, TV2 goes to a splitter in the basement, then to a TV in the kitchen, then to a TV in my daughter's room. I decided against a receiver for my daughter's room because for as much as the TV is used in the kitchen it wasn't worth it. I have two UHF Pro remotes on the same channel so it works out kinda good.

Feel free to give your Dad the avatar, and thank him for his service. :up

You could also multiplex the output of any or all of the receivers onto a feed you then send throughout the house. I currently have two 522s setup (each in single mode) to show on channel 15 and channel 17. I can watch whatever is showing on those channels in any room of the house. I could have done it with 4 channels, but 2 channels is enough for us, and single mode does have its advantages. :)

Well, you CAN output the TV1 signal on the RF port (Menu-6-1-5).

Leave TV2 doing it's thing, and switch the secondary TV to whatever channel the TV1 output is set to.

Regarding your first question (changing tuners in mid show)
I seem to have luck with this approach - but you'll miss a few seconds so i usually try to do it during a commerical.
When watching a show that's recording:

Change channels so the recording stops.
Change back to the channel you were previously watching/recording.
Hit the record button and you'll be prompted to Record the rest of the show.
It should have an option right on the screen to let you choose which tuner to use.
Choose the tuner you're not using, then you can change to another show on the tuner your watching, while the rest of the show records on the other tuner.

Your show will be split into two parts on the DVR, but that's no big deal.
I do this on my 622 all the time. I think I've done it on the 522 also.
After you've done it a few times you can do it quick enough so you don't miss a beat in the recording!

I've tried changing the default turner in Record Plus setup, but it reverses the tuner setup in all my timers, which pisses me off.
