Hello all, or any!! :-)
This is my first post, and i'm a total newbie to FTA.
I been with directv for too many years, and i'm going to give them the boot. I've been searching for alternatives, and happened on this site to try and answer some of my questions. Lets start with:
"can i change the lnb in my directv satellite dish to a duo c-ku band lnbf"?
any help is appreciated!!

NO:

No, the dish is too small for C-band.

DirecTV dishes have come in many sizes over the years.
If you have one of the larger models, it can be outfitted with a Ku LNBF and get some FTA programming.
There are examples of such conversions here on the forum.

However, for a beginner, we really recommend a proper 36" dish to start, and save the experimenting for later once ya know what you're doing. -

No, he can't do C-band, but while waiting for, or deciding whether to get a real dish hooked up, depending upon what receiver he gets, he can re-aim the little DTV dish to receive whatever free stuff is available on the DBS sats.
Not much free usually, but there are always a few channels, if you have the proper receiver to lock the transponders.
