Hello,

I hope someone here can help me because DirecTV doesn't seem to want to!

I have an H20 HD Directv receiver and am using the original remote.

When I hit the channel UP button, it goes to the next channel fine. But if I hit the channel up button again right after hitting it once, it won't go to the next channel!

I keep pressing channel up and it's not moving to the next channel!(but the receiver blinks everytime letting me know it got the channel up signal)

After 7 seconds or so, once the sound and video of the broadcast are both in, I can switch the channel again.

Resetting the receiver fixes this problem, but the problem comes back every few days.

So does anyone know what the problem is? It's the receiver right? Or something else?

I think I'm just going to buy a DirecTV HR-20 HD DVR from my local costco to get this problem out of the way.

Do I need to use my phone line to use the HR-20? I only have 1 phone line.

No , Its not like Dishnetwork. and if you order PPV online instead of your remote ,Your PPV movie will show up on all your receivers in the house instead of just the tv you ordered it on. It cost no extra either.

When this is happening is the green LED light on the remote also flashing whenever you hit the channel up/down button? I ask since sometimes my boxes stop responding for a bit and it's not the box but the remote, it looks like it thinks it's in a program remote mode, in a bit it comes out of whatever it was doing and starts working again.

Take the batteries out of the remote. Put them back in see if this helps. You might also put fresh ones in if you do alot of channel surfing. I have this problem once in awhile and it seems to be the batts. Good luck

I think I would try to verify that it's the remote before going out and buying another one.
If the rec. is blinking so it's getting the signal , what makes you think it's the remote ?

Question...do you have Native on or off?

Also, if you go to Costco or wherever to buy the HR20, you are actually paying the upfront lease fee. You will not own the HR20 (unless you're going to spend something like $800 for it.)

I didn't know Costco had D* , when I talked to the local Costco last week they said they took orders for them, but didn't handle them.

Other locations may be different, but you would think it would be standard everywhere.

edit: Just went to Costco's website and they have Nothing listed when searching for Directv
The native is where I was going to suggest he try next as well, good call iwc :)

The Costco's in the Dallas area have been selling D* subscriptions and equipment for several months now. You can pick up the HR20-700 for $275 and the HD receiver (not sure of the model) for $85. I almost signed up there, but then decided on Best Buy given the all-inclusive discounts Best Buy offered when buying a TV. They also matched Costco's price.

Those are upfront rental fees correct?

I have often asked the BB and CC employees to see what they say, seeing none of them have any signage up stating that they are "Leased units" each person tells me that they let the customer know that while talking to them.
D* has a endcap designed with all thier rec' s and promo material on them but NO mention that they are a "Lease" I find this suprising, but, hey it's not my store.

There is something inherently wrong with the situation if their is any question or doubt when you hand your money to the cashier.

I bought my first H20 from Circut City. and they made it real clear,it was a lease,They had to pull up my account with D* . So when they start asking you for you account info with D* ,you should have some idea somethings up. Thats before you pay for it too. But I bought mine just right before the "lease only" was in full effect. But There was a $200 rebate offered, and with accepting the rebate came a 24 month lease. So no matter how you look at it anytime you activate a new receiver it comes with a programming commitment. So whats the difference really? You don't have to give it back when you deactive your service.

Same here in KY, the Costcos have PALLETS of the HR20s for $269.99 and H20s for $84.99. They have had them here for quite a while. They also have a kiosk if you are new to D* and offer the same promotions as BB and CC do, $100 instant rebate for new subs, $10 off a month for 10 months, $50 Costco cash card, ST promos, etc. The pallets have been in the stores for months and talking to the sales reps there, they are going to be there for the foreseeable future, apparently Costco and D* have a marketing agreement.

I went there as Costco's tech support and warranties apply, which sue beat hell outta CC and BB any day. hehehe Not sure about the lifetime warranty, but will cross that bridge if I ever have any problems with it. And yes, they DO make it clear that you are paying up-front lease fees.
