CBS Will Drop Dish If Auto Hop Stays

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. The provider was going to move us to a new server, however we are now told by the provider the issue is at the data center in St. Louis. They have offered to move us to a different datacenter on the East Coast or West Coast, however at this time we have declined the move to a different data center as it would affect the speed of connecting to about half our members.

We are waiting for more information from our provider, however we are trying to ride this out to stay in the same data center, so that when the server is fixed all users in the US will get the fastest connection possible.

If after some time the issue is not resolved we will be forced to move to another data center, if this happens there will be down time, as they will need to transfer everything to the new server and we will need to update the DNS and other settings for the new IP address of the new server. If we have to do this, the time it will take to move will be out of our hands.

We are going to try our best to weather through this, so we thank you in advance if you encounter any issues.

    Sorry for the issue!

Let's assume a Dish victory here:
If CBS pulls O&O immediately after the decision is that considered breach of contract on their end? Didn't both parties agree to carriage for for $X / viewer / month?

If Dish loses, it's an overnight software fix for compliance to roll back the feature.

That is what we have always assumed but the details of these deals are not pubic.

I don't understand what the fuss is all about. A lot of people like me like to watch the shows the day they air not days later. The only ones now that I will watch later are the ones that are scheduled at the same time and cannot watch both at the same time. The comercial cannot be skipped on the day the shows air. The only way to skip them would be to pause the show. Then you could use the button to skip them.

After some thought, who makes a comment like this? Someone who thinks they may lose in court.....

CBS wants customer's ability to autohop to go away and Dish probably wants 3 minutes of targeted (internet based) advertising each hour and would probably pay for the ad time. Dish looks to be on firm legal ground re recording (the customer decides and controls and Dish is not involved) so if Dish "wins" the legal war, they will have something to bargin away for internet advertising time.

I wouldn't worry too much. If CBS takes their ball and goes home I'm sure Dish will replace it with other quality programming such as AMC. ;)

Hey, BeIn and Blaze are great replacements for the AMC Networks. Oh wait, I have AT200 w/BB@H, so I didn't get any replacements at all. Wow, I can't believe Charlie wouldn't be honest to us!

The fuss is about peoplewho do something different.

I have been here long enough that its obvious if prices start to go up, a lot of Dish customers with no allegence to any satellite company will flee in droves.
Has for me I am 15yrs and still counting and will support Dish to the end. I come from the era that the next guy next to you in the foxhole will watch your back.

I THINK I agree to what you are trying to say, but not sure. Care to rephrase?

AMEN Brother I got my VIP922 with it's MT2 loaded for OTA.Let's go to WAR!!.

Besides DISH's Channel Logos HD EPG is so purty.;):D

I've had commercial skip on OTA channels for over 6 years using my HTPC with BeyondTV software and SageTV had the same feature. They generally ignored that because it wasn't that prevalent, or at least they didn't think so. They might as well quit worrying about it since those who want to skip commercials are going to figure out a way to do it. If they didn't have so many bad commercials we might watch some of them. I was stationed in Germany in the early 60s and we only had German TV. They didn't show commercials during the shows, but would have them on in 30 minute blocks. The commercials were often better than the shows and people watched them as did us GIs.

I am beginning to think Dish is getting the USB OTA over the Air tuner ready for release not because we want it for sub channels but to help battle CBS when it is pulled.

Dish will just give out USB tuners in markets it pulled from so Dish customers can watch CBS Free over the air.
