CBS Sues ABC Over 'Big Brother'-Type Reality Show 'Glass House'

CBS has followed through on its threat last week to bring a legal action against ABC over the planned reality show Life in a Glass House. CBS believes the show is a "carbon copy" ripoff of its Big Brother and is being produced by a team that formerly worked on the long-running hit series.

Hope so, even todays low price consumer HD cams would be better than the SD they show...

ABC Fires Back Against CBS in Court Fight Over New Show

ABC has just filed its opposition to CBS’ request for a temporary restraining order that would halt production on the reality show Glass House and prevent its June 18 premiere, for which ABC says it has already spent over $16 million in marketing. (You can read the filing here.)

I wonder if CBS wants to try to overturn over a century of case law. You can't copyright an idea for a TV show. You can copyright specific scripts and perhaps specific situations, but not just putting people in a house and giving them situations to live through is not a copyrightable thing, otherwise "Real World" would be the only show like this.

Mtv started this "let's put a bunch of people in a house full of cameras, record everything they do, edit it to make it interesting and broadcast it" type of tv show starting with The Real World. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Mtv should sue CBS. Big Brother is basically a copy of Real World
