I just received a CaptiveWorks CW-600S, 90cm (35") Dish, STAB HH-90 Rotor, Invacom QPH-031 Quad LNBF, CD-ROM, 4x1 Diseqc Switch FTA package from GoSatellite.net.

I have set up the dish as instructed in the installation instructions. I live in Pocatello, Idaho and set the rotor at 43 deg. Latitude. & dish elevation ~38 deg.

I cannot get the receiver to find any satellite signals whatsoever. I have set the dish angle at every angle from 0 deg to 60 deg and scanned from horizon to horizon and still get no signal. Does the receiver need to be configured or something? I never received any set-up/installation cd that was supposed to come with the system, so I have no links to hook to in order to program the receiver. Is there any help available? They referred me to this forum for help.

WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

I would REMOVE the motor for now and find / store a few satellites first, thats the way most of us started here. Here is a list of all the satellites from your area, the elevation angles given are WITHOUT a motor.

When you do get round to adding the motor here is page from our GOLD sponsor that will help with the setup, installation!

Good Luck!

I appreciate the satellite list. but could you please answer this question: Does the receiver need to be programmed? I have talked to friends with FTA systems and they tell me that they had to connect online and download a program and/or software to their receiver.

I have tried to aim my dish toward many of these satellites and get no signal at any elevation. Like I said, I have scanned from east to west from 0 degrees to 60 degrees elvation and have picked up no signal in the sky from anywhere.

What satellite and channels are you trying to get ?

In fact closing this one until you PM me (or Iceberg)

No reprogramming of the receiver is needed for the legal FTA satellite channels up there.

Enter/use a LIVE TP. when pointing the dish watch only for signal QUALITY, use the angles above and stop every few seconds when moving the dish, as it sometimes takes a few seconds for the signal quality to show!

Its a transponder that is broadcasting at the time you are pointing your dish!

I have another question: I have a Invacom QPH-031 Quad LNBF, and it has two outputs labeled "C" and two labeled "L". I am confused , as to what I am supposed to be connecting to. Right now I have one of each fed into a 4x1 auto Diseqc Switch, then into the dish rotator then to the receiver. Is one C-band , and the other Ku-band. Will this 35" dish even pick up C-band?

No C-Band!

The C outputs are CIRCULAR for DBS satellites, the L outputs are for the regular Linear satellites (Where most FTA channels are)
I would not hook up the C outputs until you are all setup on the L satellites.

The L.O. for the L outputs is 10750

The L.O. for the C outputs is 11250

Same problem I had

I had the same problem as you did where I try scanning for satellites from horizon to horizon, but without any luck. My friend has a birdog satellite finder and that was how we locked on to satellite 119, but it might depend on your location. My system is the same as yours, but I changed my dish from 36" to a 6 foot. Now I'm getting dish 119 and 110, but I'm using the C's on the LNB with the same disq switch that came with the system. So my advice to you is try locking on to a Satellite and try getting the highest possible signal strength. The good thing about the birdog is it shows you what satellite you locked on to and at what strength the signal is.

Hope this help

I think we can take the above to be HACK TALK!
