Can't Watch while recording....

Last night I attempted to watch a program in my bedroom while recording another in my living room. A message on my screen said that I had to press select on my remote and that would stop recording and allow me to watch TV in the bedroon. I have the HD-DVR in the living room with a Hughes HD Platinum series in the bed room. I have a separate line running from the dish to each receiver. Any ideas as to why this is happening? I have a feeling the installers hooked the whole system up wrong. Thanks for any help.

As a follow up, this morning my wife is taping a show and I am able to watch TV in the bedroom. Is is a matter of the dual tuner on the HD-DVR?

It sounds like the bedroom receiver was told to stay on that channel by pressing the select button on the program in the guide before it starts. The receiver will think you are recording the program to vcr and not change unless you press select. This has nothing to do with the dvr.
