I'm out of town for the next 3 weeks and I'm trying to set an OTA recording of a tv series. Every time, on android or even using the DA website, it fails to create the timer and states as such.
If I try to create a timer for a non OTA channel, like any higher channel, it works right off the bat.
Is there some limitation to creating a timer for an OTA channel that doesn't work when you're out of the house?
I've tried this on my phone android DA version, chromecast DA, and using the DA website on my laptop.
Any ideas?

Your locals must be streamed, and DA cannot let you do anything with them except watch live (and even then, pause, rewind etc can't be used).

Back in my 722/Sling Adapter days, you could do this. If it's now true for a Hopper, I am both shocked and appalled. I can't try it out here at work because DA is blocked.

Why can't we use trick play on OTA DA as we do on Hopper locally? I don't think ATSC 1 broadcasts can even be encrypted.

I am recording stuff daily on several of my OTA channels. I have at least 10-15 timers for various series and news casts that record either daily or weekly and as of now it is still working. I just can't seem to start or create a timer when I'm out of the house using DishAnywhere. I suspect if I were home it would work.
I even vpn'd into my home network and tried it (being on same network) and that didn't let me create any OTA timers either.

OK, I just tested it. I left my house and moved away from my wifi network. I was unable to set a timer on two different OTA channels via DA. I came back home and tried the same two channels while within my home wifi. Same issue. I was able to set timers to my Dish local channels via DA. So, it seems to be universal, DA will not set an OTA timer whether you are in house or away. Time to call Dish.

But, you're able to set a timer using the hopper directly, correct?
Thanks for testing this!

As I have seen in so many Microsoft KB articles, I expect the same is probably true here:

This behavior is by design.

Just tested here, can't set a recording in the app for an OTA channel.

I have had this problem since earlier this year -- See my post from April:

Dish anywhere not allowing timer to be set on OTA channel

No luck getting this resolved with Dish after several phone calls/chats.

I know I used to be able to do this before, no doubt in my mind since I travel a lot. I guess Dish has bigger things to worry about instead of some silly technical issue from a few customers.

I'm tired of the H3 audio cutouts.
