After giving them 2 months and going to a 24" Dish when it sprinkles I still loose my picture, and tI do not on Direct TV. The 10 HDTV channels are a joke, no new movies. No PPV, No Espn Game Plan or ESPN Full Court. I also think the guide sucks you can not do a serch for a specific title and every time you use the guide you have to start over, it does not start from the channelyou are on.

I hope I do not have those problems when I get my VOOM installed. No one could give you a reason why you kept losing your picture? Looks like they could have kept trying to fix it. I guess VOOM is not for everyone.

Not to make excuses but with a 18" dish I have lost satellite signal about 4 times. 2 of those times my E* also has lost satellite signal.

The 10 HD Cinema channels may not be the greatest since they are not like the premium channels -- HBO, Starz, etc. But If you compare them to how much content Showtime or TMC gives you per month, they go hand in hand in quantity. In terms of the movies quality, they are old movies and I give you that.

PPV is coming...But I guess you can't wait.

No ESPN Game Plan or ESPN Full Court --- Why would you like to have those now since season is over. Can't you just wait until next season? VOOM has a plan to increase space and I would think that these will be in the plate.

Guide: It's not the best out there but it does some function not enough to get me frustrated over not getting HD channels.

Hawkeyee, this VOOM venture is not for those that expect a whole lot from the beginning. I expect all these issues to be resolved but it will take time. Good luck to each its own.

I'm leaving too, but I am researching the best alternative before hopping out.

Well I think D* stinks for stifling technology; like AT&T in the 1980's. They have all the answers, all the solutions, all the money and the product never improves … but I still have them AND Voom nonetheless. IF Voom does produce a DVR, even a bad one, I’ll be doing some kicking to the curb of my own.

welll dont go D* today. Their 119 bird is down. LMAO seems the transponders from 7s have overpowered the ones on 119. Too funny. Theres a thread about it on AVS.

I lose signal with every downpour. but im just gonna wait for the 35x20 dish? (is that right), gosh thats big. ANyone tried some sort of umbrella structure? it would make for an interesting experiment.

Plus it looks like D* will be adding not only LIL's but also foreign language channels. That means that a lot of badwidth will be needed and not much will be left to HD.

There is rumors all over the net that very shortly HD is comming to D* (Before the foreign language stations).
Thats just the buz I have been hearing.
If it is true, & they get all the HD channels that Voom has Now (Less the 21 Exclusive Voom Channels) then I will leave Voom as well.
VOOM is just not reliable enough to keep as my primary Sat. Provider.
Maybe I will keep the basic package for the Worldsport , Rush & Cinema 10

An umbrella won't help, it's the density of the water between you and the sat that depends on your sig strength. Last week I had a torrential downpour overhead, but to the East there was bright sky and my sig was high 80's. As the storm progressed East and the Easterly sky darkened and turned black, it quit raining overhead but my sig dropped to zero for about 10 minutes until the East sky lightened up again.

With the sat so low in the sky and so far East, we are just going to have to live with periodic outages, there is no dish big enough to hold a signal through a thick rain (unless you want Aracebo in your backyard) :D

Out of all the years I have had DBS, rain fade has never really been an issue with me. When it is raining or storming that bad I usually unplug all my electronics anyway and don't watch tv. I am not saying it is not a big problem for some and apparently it is, I just always considered it one of the things I would have to put up with when I went over to DBS. If it means I don't have to deal with the hated (by me) Cox Communications for televison services, I feel it is a small price to pay. Of course when I get VOOM installed I may have bad rain fade and change my tune, but up till now it has not bothered me with other services.

I get cable for all my SD channels. I can't watch sd on Voom..i would have to shoot myself. 4:3 Pic in Widescreen NOT stretched. So basically it looks like a 21" tv inside a 36"

but ya like you said..if some body else has all the mainstream voom channels i am out too. and my best bet is gonna be my cable provider..just have to wait for them to add espn.

You can do that with Voom.

No PPV, No Espn Game Plan or ESPN Full Court.
There is no ESPN Game Plan until September. There is no ESPN Full Court until late November. I expect VOOM will have these packages on the larger dish in October, along with HD PPV.

Comcast and Time Warner don't offer any HD PPV. The single channel of HD PPV on Dish and DirecTV is extremely limited -- none of the latest releases. Within the next six months, I expect VOOM to offer 3x to 5x the amount of HD PPV on Dish and DirecTV.

Lots of members have left VOOM because of this. I too am almost fed up with it. I expect this to be addressed with the new software, coming any day now.

But if this isn't fixed in new software by July 1, I will cancel until the DVR and larger dish service is available. I have stopped recommending VOOM until they fix this issue and add OTA local scanning. When I first got VOOM, I never would have thought that such a trivial issue (or so it seemed at the time) could create such aggravation.

I've only lost my signal twice since late February using a 24" dish. I wonder whether your 24" dish is adequately peaked? I have a 97-98 signal on mine.

Easy workaround: Press "Voom", Press "OK", look at the channel number you are currently on and type it in and press "Enter".

That's an easy workaround until the update (which, as stated above, is coming any day now.)

My signal strenth is at 98% but any time it rains I usually loose my picture, and that never happened with Direct TV unless it was a huge storm! I have had direct TV for many years, and yes they do not have as many HD channels as voom, but a lot of the voom channels are not all that good any way. I mean that moov channel you have to be on acid to watch. I think both Dish and Direct TV will get more HD soon. I am thinking about switching to Dish Network they seem to have the best specials going right now. They will provide me with a HD receiver and two DVR's with every channel available for around $90.00 excluding the porn channel with no contract. I love HD but voom has a lot of problems to fix, maybe after they get the bugs all worked out and get a lot more programming I will be back. They also need a new receiver, my sat installer told me a lot of the problems is the Motorola receivers Voom uses are garbage.

I'm very confused. On May 28th you wrote: I live in Virginia Beach and just had my 24" dish installed my signal strenth use to be around 88% it now is 96 to 98% it rained realy hard last night and I did not loose my signal at all.

You guys are going too far with blaming Voom for loosing signal. You should know that signal quality depends on many factors and not just on a satellite provider. Aim your dish a little bit better and make sure that you have no trees or buildings between the dish and satellite. You can't blame Voom for trees and buildings. I have Voom and Dish and they usually go "offline" at the same time.
I would say that Install. Inc is doing poor job for Voom and they should consider an alternative installer.

Well after waiting 3 weeks, still no install

Another Successful Voom Install!
