Hey OP, I am also leaving Dish due the the lack of NY RSN's. I feel your pain. Don't you just love it when the Yanks are on ESPN and that even gets blacked out.
I also hate to leave Dish, as other than the lack of RSN's, I really have no complaints. They have always been really fair to me, and the service is good. I am looking forward to having HR 34. From my understanding all you have to do to pause T.V. from the H25's, is tell it to record the show, and then just start the recording and then you can pause it that way. Not really a big deal.
Good luck with the switch. I look forward to reading how you make out with D*. I have to wait until July 25th to switch. I might wind up doing it sooner, and just paying the $20 ETF to Dish though. It depends on how much I miss baseball in the next few weeks.
So I just made the call to cancel Dish at my parents and the customer service rep was great. She did try to keep me by offering me some additional credits and premium channels but when I informed of my reason to leave Dish, she understood. Its hard for them to convince you to stay when your leaving for something that they do not offer. I asked that she please inform whoever is listening about the complete lack of RSN's in NY.
As for the switch to Direct, the install was done on Friday and from what I've heard, my parents and younger brother are loving it. Personally I can't wait to test it out. The Yanks, Mets, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Knicks, and Nets are all back on or at least when their respective seasons resume.
Its a shame that Dish doesn't see the importance of sports. One could argue that sports mean more then movies when selecting a provider considering that their are so many other ways to get movies into your home. This nonsense that they are cheaper means nothing when you don't get the same slate of channels. If AMC goes dark and the major networks decided they don't want Dish transmitting their signals when their contracts expire due to the whole Auto Hop feature, what then? No local programming. I highly doubt my bill go down by double digits and even if it did, who cares? Dish really needs to rethink its position when playing hardball with these companies.
