Can you operate off 129W only?

I do not have a clear shot to 119W on my property. We grab our 119W from our neighbors dish, an ancient LNB on a ?10 year old receiver?

I have a clear shot to 129W. Can I just get an HD box and use it only for 129W? (And flip back to my old box for anything off 119W?)

but if you got a HD receiver yes you can run it just off 129.
There are folks who have run a HD receiver off 61.5 only ;)

But you could combine the 129 feed and the 119 feed with either a DP34 or a SW21 depending on LNB setup (assuming the 119 LNB is an older Legacy LNB you would need a SW21)

what about software updates? i thought only 110 119 61.5 were the only birds that spooled software. once his software is outta date he would loose authorization. or did they start spooling software off of 129 when ciel2 took its place?

software is spooled off all sats....sometimes it takes longer depending on the sat but I'm pretty sure 129 gets software updates

I use to get software upgrades on my unscubscribed 811 that had a line only to 110 (was used for OTA and my locals were on 110 to get guide data)

last I checked they could spool of 118.7

Few folks here have Int'l only so the tech only hooks up 118.7 and save on the DP34

Unfortunately for foreigners with one FSS 118.75W LNBF... there is a table of all FW services taken today :

interesting

I can understand no 72/77 as EA would have 61.5 but odd that no 118.7 in the mix

Thanks for the info

Not really. AFAIK, Dish does not officially do installs that look at 118.7 only (nor 129 either for the same reasons to follow). In fact, in the WA, if someone wants to subscribe to internationals only, the are supposed to get Dish 500+ becuase, even if they don't have any core services, Dish wants them looking at the core satellites as well for purposes of software spool, EPG, and should it become necessary to move or add some internationals to the 119/110 slots. In fact it allows Dish the flexibility of putting some of the international sports tournaments at the 119/110 slots so it is available for all who don't subscribe internationals but will buy the tournament games and not have to mirror it at 118.7. It allows Dish greater flexibility. Also, years down the road, as technology advances, internationals may be put at the core sats. It would save them money not to have to do re-installs. In other words, Dish now wants everybody, at least in the WA, to be looking at 119 and 110 even if they subscribe to HD only or internationals only.

simple solution

Here is what I would do, just fix up the neighbors antenna, grab a simple dish 500 that can look at 110 and 119, be sure to use a dp PLUS TWIN LNB, put your dish on 129 and connect that lead into the DPP Twin input lead, then run a line to his reciever and one to yours, you will have all of the HD and can use a dual or DVR receiver with a simple Dish Separator. If it works better, move your antenna to his roof and save some coax. Coax is very inexpensive.

Bad config if ground will fail

Sounds good, but there is big problem - grounding and more important if the electrical ground would fail on any side one day for one minute.

Thanks!! Still trying to figure out THE PLAN....

Current plan version... 40" with dual LNB on roof to get 110 and 119
6 footer in back yard to get 129
