Can you get Hispasat (30.0) with an 18" dish?

Suppose I have a spare 18" or 20" dish lying around...is it at all possible to point that and pick up Hispasat? If not, what's the minimum size dish I would need, being located in New England?

Thanks

I get the strong tp's at about 40% on my Fortec with an 80cm dish. Ther weaker ones about 26-33%. 26% is the lowest I can watch. So, I would so go as big as you can. I would suspect a 90cm probably should be the minimum.

Well, I'm going to try it with a 33" dish and an xtreme II 0.3 lnb. Worst case scenario, I end up with another dish on the roof that I can aim at G10R or AMC6. There's always something I wouldn't mind not having to motor over to.

Let us know how you make out. My girlfriend would love it if I can get it. What region are you in?

its a 6 elevation in the Peg. If the dish doesnt go that low, you might have to move the mast to compensate

Yes you can get it on an 18 inch. Most channels anyway.
I get about 45% quality on 11885 V.

It does get "rained-out" easily though. But if you have an extra 18 lying around and want to try it for free, it can be done.

I mounted my linear LNB to the dish with 2 "conduit" hangers bolted together to get the proper aim and position for the lnb. Matched it up to the old DTV lnb to get the proper angle and postion.

You will most likely have to tilt the mast forward to get the low angle.
I bolted mine to a concrete block, aimed the block toward the sat, set my elevation and started searching.

Just for fun, it tried it on T5 also. Works for some channels. Had better success on Hispasat.

Of course it's not as good as a bigger dish, but it is usable.
Especially for free if you have an extra 18 around.

Here's pics of my Hispasat 18" dish.
I'm using an Extreme LNBF and a Pansat 2700a receiver.

Note the LNB skew adjustment.

That low angle, 6 degrees, means I pretty much have to be able to see the horizon. I'm hoping that placed on the peak of our roof it will have enough vantage.

The hardest part was mounting the LNB in just the right spot. I would like to make a better bracket, but haven't got to it yet.

I had actually had a 76cm aimed at it before to scan in the channels, then hooked up the 18inch to try. So I had a known good signal to look for.

Been using the 18 all winter, works "most" of the time.
Unless it rains hard :)

Southwest Indiana is in the Hot Zone for the footprint for Hispasat 1C + 1D ....49 EIRP dBW so 60 cm dish or 24 inch dish for borderline reception, I think thats incredible that you locked it with an 18 inch dish , I would've never imagined those results , how many channels are you getting , I figure Telecaribe , Cuba , and some from Spain since those are the strongest.

Very interesting that you attempted it and got results with borderline reception. Still very cool , thanks for sharing the info , I'm sure many here would love to play with an 18 inch or bigger dish just to see what happens.
