So my work said no. The funny thing.....I work in a school. Apparently the principal doesn't feel this historic moment doesn't need to be observed. I was curious as to how members of this forum will watch it since they are likely to be at work. What say you?

PS of course I'm recording it on my 622 (OTA, cnn, cspan) and my 612 (OTA other network, msnbc, ?)

Why would I want to watch it ... I am going to see his face more than enough over the next four years. The think the Obama hype is way out of control.

Sorry you feel that way, truly. However, this is a very historic event for our country. I have a lot of minority students (oxymoron?) that would be greatly influenced by watching this live. Just like 9/11 the live version with friendsr vs. recorded versions by yourself yields different results. I wish there would be a schoolwide assembly to welcome in our new president. I read an article in the paper that most workplaces were gathering in conference rooms (etc), but I wanted to verify this is happening out in the "real world" to make a case to our principal.

let us know what you are doing.

call your schoolboard and ask why the schools are not getting to watch this momentus occasion. i think it would be a great teaching tool that could inspire our youth of today. give them a reason to work hard in school and life as well as allow them to witness a giant step of growth in our country. i would let my opinion be known, and if your repremanded or worse, take it up with the school board. doesn't sound like your principal is caring too much about what is good for his students.

very true sethwell. However, it's my third year so I'm still on probation so the principal could fire me for any reason. If I had tenure.......then the story would be different. In education you aren't supposed to make any waves for the first three years. After those three years......then it's like a wave pool! I'll bounce some of this off tenured teachers to see if they want to make a case.

Can you watch at your work?

We are watching it in my school . . . re-ask your principal but add an assignment (i.e. a reflection, impressions, etc.)

When I was in school..enter old person joke here...lol, but really I am in my thirty's and I remember big events televised, space shuttle launches and all. The inaguration is a big deal regardless of who is being inagurated!

were fourunate to have a TV in our lunch area, so when I take my lunch I will catch a bit

Imagine that your ethnic group (about 10% of the population) have been an important part of the country for over 200 years, but one of yours has never been the leader.

Add that part of the reason for that is that your group was enslaved for 100 years, and then second class citizens for another 100 years.

For that group, tomorrow means that for the first time, they feel that they are capable of doing anything that anyone else can do.

I heard an older black man comment that now the young black guys no longer have the excuse of not being able to accomplish something because they are black. And he said that they can't even use the excuse "but I don't have a father" because the President didn't have one either.

I think that too many people look at this in terms of Democrat/Republican, and don't undestand the potential tomorrow has for healing some very old wounds.

I remember two dates when I was in school that the whole school was glued to the TV all day. One was the trial of the century waiting for the OJ verdict in '95 and the other was 9/11 in '01.

Anyways, I'll be at work listening to it on NPR or watching it on CNN.com

And yet lets wait and see how much the race card with still be used....But I agree with you, black people no longer have any excuse to use. It's quite sad how they separate themselves. In my opinion, what's so special about Obama? Race shouldn't matter, he's just another guy, what's historic? Seems to me they are singling themselves out even more by pointing out that now we have a "black" president...

And saying that this is great for those who were enslaved for so long makes it seem as though they deserve MORE than other races. Are we not now equal, why should blacks be so special? What about everyone else? It's as if a white person is worth nothing compare to a black nowadays because we cater to them so much due to their demand of payback or something. I find it all ridiculous. Lets just treat this president the same as any other.

Good post Josh. According to the media, this is the greatest event in the history of the world. One thing people always forget, at some time in their history every race has been the victim of slavery!
