Hello,

I have a 522 and just bought a new Panny HD Plasma. I do plan on getting HD service from Dish soon, but I have a OTA antenna that I want to use for Over the air HD. Here's my problem, we just mounted the TV and buried the wires. I didn't install any coax cable so now I don't have my antenna hooked up to the TV. Can I hook up the antenna to the 522's external antenna port and have it pass the hd local channels to the tv to do the decoding? I have the TV connected to the 522 via component. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks.

It should but you will have to turn the 522 off or push the tv/ video button on the remote to disable the rf out from the sat receiver. You could also just use a couple of diplexors and send the antenna thru the same cable as the sat signal. If you didn't put coax in and are talking about getting it thru the composite cables from the dvr then no it won't work that way.

Actually, the OTA signal does not pass through via composite (assume you mean composite as components are for HD receivers and the 522 does not have) If you have the rf output hooked into the tuner of your Plasma, then they would pass through by use of the tv/video input button on the remote. It may also pass through if the screen saver is not active on the rf output when the 522 is shut off.

I'm an idiot. The satellite is hooked up via s-video to my yamaha stereo receiver which then converts the signal to it's component output. So instead of hooking up the antenna to the 522, I have to figure out a way (if it is even worth it) to hook it up to the stereo to allow it to pass the hd signal.

Sorry for the confusion.

NO you don't want it connected to your YAMAHA the audio receiver dosen't have a RF connection to your HD Plasma. The only thing you can do is connect a coaxial cable from the TV antenna to the RF antenna connection on the back of the Panasonic. There is no other way to use the ATSC tuner in the Panasonic.:):):)

You could upgrade to one of the DISH HDTV receivers then connect the coax to it's tuner and run component from the DISH receiver to the Yamaha and then to the Panasonic.

Boba, you are correct. Maybe I should have run the coax, but I've already got enough cables behind there. I was just looking for a temporary fix.

Thanks all.
