Can I switch to Welcome Pack or Dish Family and keep HD4L? Also can I do this online?

Hey Guys --I've seen this or similar questions posted but given how policies change I wanted to ask just to be sure. I saw Welcome Pack is now available for $14.95, but given I'm a current subscriber can I take advantage of this? And if so can I do it online or do I need to call DishNetwork to put it in place?

Dish Family for $24.95 is the lowest package on the list when I try to change plans, but it's not listed on the package list - Satellite TV Programming & Digital DISH TV Packages -DISH Network - so is this the same as the Welcome Package but named differently for current customers?

Thanks for any insight on this and info on whether or not I can switch to either of these and keep HD4L.

Sam

If you were to switch to these you would not have HD channels other than your locals (if available). You would still have HD Free for Life on the account if you switch back with a package with HD. You can switch to DISH Family online but you would have to call in (or send me a PM with your account information) for the Welcome Pack.

Zach, Hmm, I didn't anticipate loosing HD programming... I'd hate to go back to SD programming. So is Dish America at $35/month the lowest plan we can get and retain HD programming?

Family and Welcome are not the same package. If you are still under contract I believe Family is as low as you can go. PM Zack for information.

Yes. You can change to Welcome Pack although I'd get a DIRT member to assist me. You won't be eligible for some things (like BBMP) and, as others have said, will not get HD in the base package. If you have the right equipment and add something like, say EPIX a la carte or the sports package that contains MAV TV, you will get those in HD. If you are in an area with HD locals you'd also get those (again assuming you have the right equipment).

now i see that i don't qualify for hd programing with family pack. and i see that welcome pack does not include hd also. but maybe i switched to family plan instead of welcome pack? i do see that if i switch do a higher plan, then i will get my hd back. i have a vip222 receiver so i get some hd programming. am i eligible to switch to the welcome pack instead of family pack? mostly i am not interested in dish but my wife likes it and she was disappointed losing hgtv when i switch from the 250 to family plan. charlie

Welcome pack has HGTV

What would happen if an EA customer switches to the WP or DF? Oh... I suppose that is why the SD nationals are duplicated on EA. Bah! Dish should just either (1) give WP or DF customers HD if available or (2) fix their firmware so that it unconditionally downconverts to SD. The duplicative SD channels on EA are an obscene waste of bandwidth if you ask me. Or (3) they could duplicate only the DF or WP channels, and not all of them, on EA.

I think I found a solution to the Lack of Full time HD RSN's issue.
