Can I set the time for the Hopper nightly download?

With my old 722K, I could go into setup and pick the time that I wanted the receiver to do its nightly update. For the past week, every night at 1:30am the receiver asks if it can power down and update. Is there a way for me to set the time like I did with my old 722K?

No. Maybe at some future date.

Too bad!

Since I could not find a way to set the time for the nightly update, I was hoping that the receiver would automatically adjust the time. For example, if the receiver asked me to update at 1:30am and I selected "No, keep watching TV", then the next day the receiver would try at 2:00am. If I said No again, then it would try at 2:30am the next day, and so on...would be a good feature and not difficult to implement.

I respectfully request that any DISH software team member who may see this post PLEASE consider changing the download time from 1:30am to something later like 3:00am. Or, as Tony suggested above, let the user set the update time as an option like it was on the VIP receivers.

Thank you.

Yep. We've asked before. Maybe it's on their list of future improvements.

I've seen as early as 1:27 or maybe 1:25 in your local timezone. Not later than say 1:35.
If not accepted it usually tries again an hour later etc. until sometime in the morning.
I'd like a menu item for it to start the process on demand or as near as possible.
It seems to be smart enough to not start if a recording is about to start.
But if you walk away it will start if not denied soon enough.
Why though does it load the guide, then 5 minutes later do its reset and load the guide again???
I've had it load the guide at least 4 times, each usual 5 minutes after the pervious one.
And those often after forcing a reboot because it had hung the EHD.

Hah !! Any fixed time will get complaints... For the sake of argument, I don't want it to happen at 3am. See what I mean ? The only solution is to allow the user to choose the time.

It was strongly implied by "someone" that this option was implemented in the next s/w release ... 2-3 s/w versions ago !

Am I really off in thinking that in today's day and age why can't Dish allow updates via the Internet. I have to think it would be a lot faster and more efficient as a delivery system. Automated system-to-system and not like the user has to go to the Dish website, initiate the download and install themselves.

I totally get the fact that not everyone has high speed Internet or even a reliable connection depending upon where they live or their financial situation so they simply set up the boxes to detect if there is an Internet connection or make it a configurable option, with the traditional satellite delivery method as default. Not suggesting they eliminate the current satellite method.

Or is it really an issue where Dish is trying to protect their software from possibly being intercepted by anyone if it's on the Internet somewhere.

With the millions of Dish receivers in place that have NO internet capabilities, I'm sure going internet-only s/w downloads is way down on Dish's to-do list. Then, even the receivers that do have internet access has no assurance that customers connect them up. Stating the obvious, ALL Dish receivers have access to s/w downloads via satellite. ;)

True, but like I posted I never said the satellite option ever goes away. Internet is an additional option. And the installers can explain to the customer that Internet connectivity for a Dish device has many advantages and creates a more immersive user experience to encourage hookup. Looking to the future and not the millions of older receivers.

We have been asking for the ability to set the time for download for over a year now. It is probably safe to say it is not going to happen at this point.

I believe it's been reported that it is in fact o Dish's list of things to do, but not in the near future.

I posted this above, but we were given the impression that this is in fact done and was going to be part of a previous software update months ago.

This question comes up so often, maybe we should have a pop-up on the site, every few minutes, to the effect "We still cannot set the nightly update time on the Hopper."

;)
